Domestic Sewing Machine Needles NZ
Needle systems · Fabric points · Sizes
Choose domestic sewing machine needles by the system your machine specifies, then match the point and size to your fabric and thread. Compare everyday sewing, quilting and embroidery options alongside listed specialist overlocker, coverstitch and older-machine needle systems.
Choosing the needle system, point and size
Start with the machine’s needle system. Check the manual before selecting a size. Common household 130/705 H or HAx1 needles sit alongside specialist systems in this range. A flat shank, round shank or familiar brand name alone does not establish compatibility.
Match the point to the fabric. Universal, jersey/ballpoint, stretch, jeans, Microtex, leather and quilting needles have different designs. Choose the listed style for the fabric and task, then choose a needle size that also suits the thread. Embroidery, metallic and topstitch needles have their own thread-handling features.
Treat specialist listings separately. Overlockers and coverstitch machines can specify ELx705, DCx1 F, SY 2054 or another system. HLx5, 287 WH and older Singer systems are also model dependent. The Brother PR needle pack follows its named embroidery-machine requirements. Read the exact listing rather than treating this range as a universal-fit set.
Check special stitches and pack contents. Twin needles need compatible threading, needle spacing and stitch-width settings. Wing needles and other specialist types need the appropriate machine setup. Check the number of needles, supplied sizes and any fitting notes, then test the selected needle and stitch on a fabric offcut.
