What you need to know

Match the needle system, size and point type to your machine manual, fabric and thread. The detailed needle guide below explains the supplied pack.

Janome · Universal needle assortment

Four sizes for everyday sewing choices

This Janome 15x1 assortment puts four useful needle sizes in one case, making it easier to match your needle to a new fabric. Universal needles have a slightly rounded point for a broad range of everyday sewing. Start with a size suited to the material and thread, then check the result on scraps.

A mixed-size five-pack for compatible machines using the 15x1 household needle format.

Choose it for your project

Everyday woven fabrics

A practical starting selection for garment seams and household projects, with size chosen to suit fabric weight and thread thickness.

Moving between fabrics

Keep the unused needles in their labelled positions so a finer needle is easy to distinguish from a heavier one.

Finding a starting size

Trial on the project's actual layers. Look for clean stitch formation without enlarged holes, puckering or unnecessary force through the fabric.

Before you start

  1. Check your machine's required needle format and choose the smallest suitable size for the fabric and thread.
  2. Fit the selected needle safely, fully inserting it in the orientation specified by the machine manual.
  3. Test a seam before starting and change needle type if the fabric calls for a specialised point.

Universal describes the needle point, not universal machine compatibility. Leather, highly elastic fabric and demanding embroidery can require a more specialised needle.

Good to know

How many size 14 needles are included?

Two; the pack also contains one each in sizes 9, 11 and 16.

Is the largest needle always best?

No. An unnecessarily large needle can leave visible holes; match the size to both fabric and thread.
