A specialised point for quilting and challenging fabrics
Janome Purple Tip needles use a flanged ball-point design, often called a cobra head, for applications including free-motion quilting, heavyweight knits and dense embroidery. Their size 90/14 format offers a specialised alternative to ordinary sewing needles. This five-pack is useful when your Janome guidance recommends Purple Tip needles for a demanding fabric or stitch combination.

Before you start
- Confirm machine compatibility and that size 90/14 suits your project, rather than choosing by tip colour alone.
- Safely replace the old needle, fully seating the new one in the manual's specified orientation.
- Test with the intended thread and layers, adjusting the sewing setup before stitching the finished piece.
A needle change can help, but it cannot guarantee the removal of every loop or skipped stitch. Threading, tension and fabric support still matter.

Is Purple Tip simply a larger Blue Tip?
No. It has a different point design, as well as a different size.
Are these only for quilting?
No. Janome also recommends them for applications including heavyweight knits and dense embroidery, subject to machine and project suitability.
