Before you start
- Check your machine accepts the needle system and size, then choose thread that passes freely through the eye.
- Fit a fresh needle safely and prepare a layered scrap matching the thickest part of the seam.
- Sew the test slowly without pulling the fabric; inspect the stitching before working on the finished item.
A denim needle does not increase a machine's sewing capacity. For elastic denim, a stretch-specific needle may be preferable if testing reveals skipped stitches.
