Schmetz · Specialist round-shank needles

Round-shank fit for the machine that specifies it.

Schmetz 287 WH needles are for selected sewing and overlock machines requiring this round-shank system, also known as 1738. Their acute point suits woven sewing, while the specialist shank makes correct machine identification essential. Check the manual before selecting a size for your fabric and thread.

Pack of five needles in one size. Options are labelled 12/80 and 14/90.

Woven fabric sewing

Suitable for a range of woven fabrics on a compatible machine; select the size for the actual layers and thread.

Specialist sewing machines

Use where the operating instructions name this system, rather than assuming a familiar machine brand means a standard household fit.

Specified overlockers

Some overlock machines require this needle. Check the exact model's instructions, since overlocker needle systems are not interchangeable.

Choose the required option in the selector above. Each selection is supplied separately; this is not a set of every size shown.

Before you start

  1. Find the needle-system reference in your manual and confirm 287 WH / 1738 or a documented equivalent.
  2. Switch off the machine and insert the needle fully in the orientation shown by the manufacturer.
  3. Thread and sew a sample slowly, checking the seam and fabric before working on the finished project.

Do not fit these where a conventional 130/705 H flat-shank needle is required. A matching size number does not establish compatibility.

Good to know

Are these standard household sewing needles?

No. They have a round shank and are suitable only for machines that require this specialist system.

What do 12/80 and 14/90 mean?

They are paired size references: 12/80 is 80/12 and 14/90 is 90/14. The 90 needle is thicker.
