Schmetz · Decorative topstitching needles

A longer eye for a more prominent stitch.

Schmetz Topstitch needles have a 2 mm elongated eye for suitable heavier threads or multiple threads used together. They are useful when stitching is part of the design, from garment edges to quilted details. The slightly rounded point suits a range of materials; choose 80/12 or 90/14 for the thread and fabric together.

Five needles in one selected size, with 130 N marked on the packet.

Visible garment seams

Add defined stitching to pockets, collars or hems. Test all the layers together before starting the project.

Quilting details

Consider for suitable quilting and free-motion work with decorative thread. Check thread passage, stitch balance and the quilt's underside.

Combined-thread effects

Try compatible threads together for stronger colour or texture. Follow the machine's thread routing and check free passage through the eye.

Eye length 2 mm
Size choices 80/12 or 90/14

Choose the required size or pack option above. Your order supplies the selected option, not the full range.

Before you start

  1. Check machine compatibility and choose 80/12 or 90/14 for the fabric and intended thread combination.
  2. Switch off, install the needle and set up the decorative thread following the machine and thread instructions.
  3. Sew a sample, adjusting tension and stitch length until both sides of the seam are balanced.

A larger eye does not make every thick thread suitable for the machine. Check thread handling and needle-size limits before planning bold topstitching.

Good to know

Does Topstitch mean a leather-cutting point?

No. This needle has a slightly rounded point. Leather that requires a cutting point needs a different needle type.

Must the bobbin use the same heavy thread?

Not necessarily. Follow your machine's guidance and test the thread combination; matching upper and bobbin thread weights is not always required.
