Schmetz · Parallel-stitch household needle

Two even rows in a single pass.

The Schmetz Universal Twin Needle combines two needles on one shank to sew parallel rows with two top threads. It is useful for decorative seams, lace application and pintucks on suitable fabrics. Select the spacing as well as the needle size, and confirm that your household machine supports twin-needle sewing with that combination.

One twin-needle unit in your chosen spacing and size, not a set of every option.

Decorative seams

Use matching threads for neat double rows or two colours for contrast. Test the stitch pattern before sewing.

Pintuck details

Pair a suitable narrow spacing with a compatible pintuck foot for raised details on blouses or other appropriate fabric projects.

Lace application

Try parallel stitching when attaching suitable lace. Keep the fabric supported and choose a thread that works with both materials.

Choose the required size or pack option above. Your order supplies the selected option, not the full range.

Before you start

  1. Confirm twin-needle support and choose permitted spacing, stitch width, presser foot and throat plate.
  2. Switch off, fit the needle and hand-thread two top threads as directed; use twin mode if available.
  3. Turn the handwheel through the complete stitch to check clearance, then test slowly on matching fabric.

Both needles must clear the foot and throat plate throughout the selected stitch. Do not use a straight-stitch plate or assume the machine's full zigzag width is safe.

Good to know

What does the millimetre number describe?

It is the distance between the needles. The paired number, such as 80/12, describes the needle size.

Can I use the automatic threader?

No. Thread both eyes by hand. For highly elastic fabrics, compare the specialised Stretch Twin option.
