Schmetz Super Universal needles use a smooth non-stick surface to reduce adhesive residue when sewing with self-adhesive elements or embroidery backing. Their enlarged eye, groove and specialised blade add versatility for suitable demanding materials. Choose 70/10, 80/12 or 90/14 for the fabric and thread, from lighter projects to appropriately heavier layers.

Demanding materials
Try on suitable felt, hook-and-loop tape or firm fabrics where the enlarged eye and blade design are useful. Stay within the machine's capacity.

Before you start
- Confirm machine compatibility and choose the size for the material, thread and complete set of layers.
- Switch off, fit the needle and prepare the project using adhesive only as directed.
- For very light-coloured fabric, sew about one metre on a scrap first, then inspect a test seam.
Non-stick means less build-up, not a permanently clean needle. Inspect the needle during adhesive work and follow the machine's safe cleaning and replacement guidance.
Good to know
Is a lighter-looking coating a sign it has stopped working?
Not necessarily. Schmetz says the surface can become lighter with use without losing its anti-adhesive properties.
Is this the same as Gold Embroidery?
No. This coating targets adhesive residue. Gold Embroidery needles use a hard titanium-nitride treatment for wear protection.
