• Rotating or folding: a rotating cutting mat lets you turn your work for block trimming without repeatedly lifting the fabric. A purpose-made folding mat is useful for classes and compact storage. Do not fold a standard flat mat.
• Strips, squares and triangles: long rectangular quilting rulers suit strips and borders; square rulers help check and trim blocks. Use the appropriate triangle or slotted ruler for your pattern. Match metric or imperial markings to the instructions, including any seam allowance.
• Grip and organisation: add a suitable suction ruler handle for positioning and a ruler rack to keep your cutting area tidy. Check the handle fits the ruler surface, keep fingers clear of the blade path and close the rotary cutter after use.
