Choose a surface for your next cut.
Compare cutting mats for sewing, quilting and craft work, including fixed, rotating and purpose-made folding formats. Check the listed dimensions, measuring grid and suitable cutting tools for each mat. These are manual cutting surfaces; adhesive carrier mats for powered craft machines are a separate purchase.
Choosing and caring for a cutting mat
Compare the working area. Check the marked cutting area as well as the outside dimensions. Allow room for your fabric, ruler and hand placement on a stable table. A named A1 or A2 format does not replace the measurements on the individual listing.
Fixed, rotating or folding? A flat mat suits a regular cutting station. A rotating mat lets you turn the work using its intended rotating base. A purpose-made folding mat offers a more compact storage option; do not fold a mat that is designed to stay flat. Choose the format that suits your workspace and project.
Match the grid and tool. Some mats show metric and imperial markings, while others use a particular measuring system. Match the grid to your pattern and check the manufacturer’s permitted cutting tools. A rotary-cutting surface is not automatically suitable for every craft knife, blade or cutting method.
Store and use as directed. Keep the mat supported and follow its cleaning, storage and temperature instructions. A cutting mat is not a pressing mat. For Brother powered cutting, choose the correct ScanNCut mat and accessories for the machine series instead.
