Keep the surface smooth and the grid accurate
Correct storage prevents permanent warping
Self-healing does not mean heat-proof or warp-proof. OLFA states that a warped mat cannot be made flat again, so give it a cool, fully supported storage space.
- Store the mat flat and never roll it.
- Keep it away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Do not leave it in a hot or cold vehicle.
- Never iron on the mat or place hot tools on it.
- Clean with mild detergent on a soft, damp cloth.
- Move repeated cuts around the surface to avoid permanent grooves.
- Use a lint roller, heavy tape or art gum eraser to lift trapped fibres.
- Keep pins, needles and loose objects clear of the cutting path.

Is the mat double-sided?
Yes. Both faces can be used for rotary cutting. One side has a yellow imperial grid and the other is plain green for general cutting.
Does it have a centimetre grid?
No. The printed grid is imperial and measures 24 x 18 inches. The approximate overall mat size is 63 x 47cm.
Is 60 x 45cm the complete outside size?
No. That is the approximate metric equivalent of the working grid. The full mat is approximately 63 x 47cm, while the printed grid is 24 x 18 inches.
Can I use an art knife or utility knife?
No. OLFA specifies the RM-SG for rotary blades only. A fixed blade can cut too deeply and permanently damage the surface.
Does self-healing mean cuts disappear completely?
The surface is designed to close after normal rotary cuts so fine lines become much less visible. Repeatedly cutting the same place can still create a permanent groove.
Can I iron on the mat?
No. Heat can permanently warp the mat. Keep irons, hot tools, direct sunlight and extreme temperatures away from it, and always store it flat.
