Colourwork & Striped Knitting Patterns NZ
Fair Isle · Intarsia · Colour blocks · Stripes
Explore knitting patterns with separate colour choices for Fair Isle, intarsia, colour-block or striped designs. Compare garments, accessories and blanket projects, including multi-design leaflets with a coloured option, then follow each pattern’s colour roles and quantities.
Choosing a colourwork or striped pattern
Compare the methods: Fair Isle, intarsia, separate colour blocks and stripes use different ways of arranging yarn colours. This is a mixed selection of those designs, not a claim that every leaflet teaches the same technique. Read the chosen pattern’s instructions and skill requirements.
Choose the coloured option: Some leaflets also offer a solid version. Shell & Heydon includes a colour-block Heydon hat, while Beanies 4 Ways and the Broadway baby vest or T-shirt offer stripe choices. Select the relevant project and colour option rather than assuming every alternative uses multiple colours.
Plan each colour separately: Follow the pattern’s A, B and C roles or other colour labels, and check the quantity of every shade for your size. Repeating the same shade can change the contrast or remove the effect. A pattern’s total yarn weight does not replace its separate-colour quantities.
Separate colourwork from automatic yarn effects: These projects call for separate colour selections. A self-striping yarn can create colour changes on its own; textured stripes in a single shade are another effect again. The printed pattern, yarn and tools are separate choices unless the exact listing states otherwise.
