Create airy hemstitch detail in woven fabric.
The Schmetz Wing Hemstitch Needle uses wing-like sides on its blade to push woven threads apart, leaving decorative openings along the seam. It works especially well in suitable loosely woven linen, cotton or batiste. Choose 100/16 or 120/19 for the intended effect, then test the stitch and fabric together before embellishing your project.
One single wing needle in the selected size; this is not a twin-needle unit.

Before you start
- Confirm machine suitability; fit the permitted zigzag throat plate and satin-stitch or zigzag foot with sufficient clearance.
- Switch off, install and hand-thread the needle; select the approved hemstitch setting and limit stitch width.
- Check clearance through the full stitch by handwheel, then sample the effect on matching fabric.
The wider blade needs room throughout the stitch. Use the machine's wing or twin-needle setting if available, and do not use an automatic needle threader.

Which stitches show the holes clearly?
Stitches that enter the same hole repeatedly can emphasise the effect. Start with your machine's hemstitch or heirloom-stitch guidance.
Will the holes look the same in every fabric?
No. Weave, needle size, thread and stitch settings change the result. Loosely woven fabrics generally show the effect most clearly.
