A firmer foundation for creative thread work
Madeira Avalon Ultra is a strong, transparent water-soluble film for embroidery that needs more support than a lightweight topping. Use it for lace, thread sketching and creative stitching, then wash out the film when the work is complete.
At 90 micron, Ultra is three times the nominal thickness of 30 micron Avalon Light. Its firm film construction is different from the textile-like non-woven Avalon Plus.

Where it works best
Thread sketching
Use the clear film as a temporary base for free-motion drawing with thread. Plan the stitch network before starting, particularly where separate shapes need to join.
Textile collages
Enclose suitable fabric pieces and yarns between film layers for sandwich techniques. Stitch a connected network that secures every element before washing away the surrounding support.

How to use it
- Cut the required length and prepare the layers your design needs. Hoop securely; specialist hoopless techniques require suitable machine settings and control.
- Embroider, ensuring thread-only areas remain interconnected. Remove the work from the hoop and carefully trim away excess film.
- Wash out the remaining film in lukewarm water. Support the embroidery while wet and allow it to dry in the intended shape.
Test your design, layer count and wash-out process first. All fabrics, threads and embellishments must tolerate water. Store unused film sealed, away from moisture and drying conditions.

Is this the lightweight Avalon film?
No. Ultra is the firmer 90 micron film; Avalon Light is 30 micron.
Can I embroider directly onto Ultra?
Yes, with a suitable connected-stitch design. Ordinary embroidery files are not necessarily digitised to survive without fabric underneath.
