Madeira Avalon Light, labelled Avalon Film, is a clear water-soluble topping for embroidery on towelling, knits and other textured fabrics. Its lightweight film helps prevent stitches disappearing into the pile, then washes away after stitching.
The 30cm-wide roll is convenient for cutting individual hoop-sized pieces. This is a light topping film, not the firmer Avalon Ultra or fabric-like Avalon Plus.

Where it works best
Delicate sewing
For suitable washable silk or organza, sandwiching the fabric between film layers can help manage fine layers during sewing or buttonhole work. Test the complete removal process on an offcut first.
Quilt pattern transfer
Trace a quilting pattern onto the clear film with a suitable removable marker, then baste it in position. Check the marker on spare materials before marking the project.

How to use it
- Cut a piece large enough for your hoop. For topping, place it on the fabric face and hoop together; add suitable backing underneath if needed.
- Stitch your design, then support the stitches while carefully removing excess film around the embroidery.
- Dissolve remaining film in lukewarm water, rinse as required and dry according to the fabric's care instructions.
Use only where the fabric, thread and trims can tolerate water. A topping does not automatically replace backing. Keep unused film sealed and protected from moisture.
