A size range does not mean every size is included. The ChiaoGoo sets omit 3mm; the Complete set also omits 7mm and 7.5mm. ChiaoGoo cable lengths alone are 35, 55 and 75cm; the finished circular lengths above include the tips.
For these featured sets, Zing offers colour-coded aluminium tips and swivel cables. TWIST offers stainless-steel lace tips and red steel-core cables. Start with the feel you prefer, then check your pattern sizes.

Make the set work for your next project
The featured sets already include cables and a case. Extra cables are useful for keeping another project on the go. For ChiaoGoo, match Small [S] to 2.75–5mm tips and Large [L] to the Complete set’s 5.5–10mm tips. Use 35cm or longer cables with these 13cm tips.
ChiaoGoo and KnitPro use separate connection systems. Check compatibility before adding tips or cables; choose yarn quantity and needle size from your pattern and tension swatch.
Interchangeable: connect tips to matching cables for flat knitting or knitting in the round. A useful starting point for garments, shawls and blankets.
Single-pointed: traditional straight pairs for scarves, panels and smaller flat pieces.
Double-pointed (DPNs): divide stitches across several needles for socks, gloves, sleeves and hat crowns.
Shorties and mini systems: compact tips for small circulars. Check the actual diameter range, connection size and finished circumference for each set.
Buy the sizes your patterns call for. A smaller starter set can be enough for a consistent yarn weight. A deluxe set offers more choices; a complete or grande set makes sense when you regularly switch between fine and larger sizes.
Names vary by brand. Compare the actual contents, including duplicate cable lengths and accessories. For a gift, check which system and tip material the knitter already enjoys.
13cm / 5-inch: more length to hold, with the featured sets building approximately 60cm, 80cm and 100cm circulars. Useful for garments, shawls, blankets and flat knitting.
10cm / 4-inch: a shorter handhold, with compatible short cables allowing smaller circulars. For ChiaoGoo, 10cm tips with a 20cm cable make approximately a 40cm circular.
For very small rounds, consider mini tips, Shorties, DPNs or Magic Loop. Check whether the listed length measures the cable alone or the finished needle.
Stainless steel: a smooth surface and precise points, including ChiaoGoo TWIST and KnitPro Mindful ranges.
Aluminium: lightweight metal, with colour-coded sizes in the KnitPro Zing range.
Wood or bamboo: a warmer feel with more surface grip, which some knitters prefer for slippery yarn. Explore wood options such as KnitPro Symfonie and Dreamz in the full range.
Material preference is personal. Consider your yarn, stitch control and hand comfort; a higher price does not automatically make a set the best fit.
Do not assume different brands connect. ChiaoGoo MINI [M], Small [S] and Large [L] identify different joins. Match tip and cable labels; mixed joins need an appropriate adapter where supported.
Many KnitPro tips and cables share a system, but confirm the exact product, tip length and intended circular length. ChiaoGoo components do not directly connect to KnitPro tips.
Start with the pattern, needle sizes and technique you want to learn. The Zing Deluxe is an accessible route into an interchangeable system when its eight sizes suit your projects. A smaller starter set or straight needles may be more appropriate for a first scarf.
Whichever format you choose, make a tension swatch before starting a fitted garment. The pattern and your own tension determine the final needle size.
