Cable Knitting Patterns NZ
Cable texture · Garments · Knitted accessories
Explore printed knitting patterns with cable texture, from sweaters, cardigans and vests to hats, scarves and other accessories. Compare the named cable project and its yarn, shaping and tool requirements; some multi-design leaflets also offer a plainer alternative.
Choosing a cable knitting pattern
Choose the actual cable design: This selection is based on cable, cabled or travelling-cable texture in the design. In paired leaflets, check which project contains that detail: Holme is the cabled jumper, Isle the cabled scarf and Thorpeness the cabled hat. A second design in the same leaflet may use a different stitch.
Separate stitch tools from needle cables: A cable needle temporarily holds stitches for a cable crossing. The connecting cable on a circular knitting needle serves a different purpose. Follow the pattern’s tool list; a listing does not qualify here merely because it uses circular needles.
Swatch the pattern fabric: Cables can affect the fabric’s width and finished fit. Use the stated stitch pattern for the tension sample, compare body and finished measurements, and follow any blocking instructions. Needle diameter and circular length depend on the individual design.
Order for the chosen project: Check the leaflet’s yarn type, metres, quantities and size. These are printed instructions; yarn, needles, cable tools and finished garments are separate unless an exact listing expressly includes them. Project-builder additions depend on your selections.
