Your yarn choices
MODE at Rowan Chunky Wool 100g. Thorpeness is photographed in Primrose 017; Lowestoft is photographed in Winter 011.
Thorpeness uses two 100g balls with a single strand. Lowestoft uses seven 100g balls with yarn held double; seven is the total required, so do not double the displayed quantity. Each addition supplies one selected project.
Order the full amount of each shade together; contact us for help checking dye lots.
Project sizing & yarn quantities
Both designs have one published size. The hat measurement describes finished circumference, not the head measurement. Compare the dimensions before beginning. Follow the purchased pattern for complete instructions.
| Project / body size | Finished measurement | Yarn required |
|---|---|---|
| Thorpeness hat · flat | Hat · approx. 45.5cm finished circumference; adult woman’s size | Yarn shade: 2 balls |
| Thorpeness hat · in the round | Hat · approx. 45.5cm finished circumference; adult woman’s size | Yarn shade: 2 balls |
| Lowestoft snood | Snood · 33.5cm wide × 152cm circumference | Yarn shade: 7 balls |
Each addition supplies one selected project. For paired designs, add each separately and include the leaflet only once. Extra length or alterations may require more yarn.
Needles & finishing tools
Thorpeness flat: 6mm and 7mm straight needles. The hat requires a cable needle. An optional pompom is not included. No cables are required.
Thorpeness in the round: 6mm and 7mm circular needles measuring 40cm, plus 7mm DPNs. The Zing package combines 6mm Zing short tips with 7mm Symfonie 2 short tips. Both packages include Symfonie 2 DPNs. The hat requires a cable needle and stitch marker. An optional pompom is not included. A 40cm-labelled cable pairs with short 10cm tips. Swap the tip sizes when instructed; one cable is included.
Lowestoft: 12mm straight needles. No additional specialised finishing tool is listed for the snood. No cables are required.
A tapestry needle, measuring tape and scissors are useful finishing tools; these are not automatically added.
Tension & care
Thorpeness: 18 stitches × 20 rows/rounds to 10cm over cable pattern using 7mm needles.
Lowestoft: 9 stitches × 14 rows to 10cm over garter stitch using 12mm needles and yarn held double.

What you will receive
Pattern only: one MIP24 Lowestoft & Thorpeness knitting pattern leaflet. Yarn and tools are not included.
Build my project: yarn for the selected project, version and size, plus the pattern and tools you select. Untick the pattern if you already own it. Your cart records your selection.
Before you begin
Can I use my own tools or pattern?
Yes. Select only what you need. Check needle diameters and circular lengths before choosing own tools or cables. Own cables removes the cables and any connector from the package, while retaining the needle tips.
Can I make more than one project?
Add one project at a time, then return to choose the next. Include the leaflet once and untick it for later additions. Buy the full yarn quantity for each project.
