$39.90

Sulky Thermofilm · Heat-removable embroidery film

A clean finish without a water rinse.

A thin, transparent film for embroidery where washing out a stabiliser is unsuitable. Tear away the excess, then remove remaining film with a dry iron on compatible, heat-tolerant materials.

This 25cm-wide roll contains 10m of clear film.

When to choose Thermofilm

Water-sensitive projects

Choose a heat-removal method when the fabric should not be soaked, provided it can tolerate the required ironing.

Visible reverse sides

Useful where leftover backing would show on the reverse of a design and a softer finish is important.

Light, clear support

The transparent 30-micron film supports suitable embroidery without becoming a permanent fabric backing.

Check the roll width against the area you need to cover, including enough material for secure hooping where required.

How to use it

  1. Place the textured side of Thermofilm against the underside of the fabric, then hoop both layers.
  2. Stitch the design and carefully tear away excess film towards the embroidery.
  3. Following the pack directions, use a dry iron in circular movements to turn remaining film into small particles. Brush or shake them away.

Check fabric and thread heat tolerance first. Use an iron, not a heat press, and no steam. Thermofilm is not recommended for high-pile fabrics such as towelling; choose a suitable wash-away topping for those.

Good to know

Is Thermofilm the same as Thermofix?

No. Thermofilm is removed after embroidery. Thermofix is a fusible adhesive web used to bond fabric layers or patches permanently.

How should I store the roll?

Keep it in a closed plastic bag in a dry place, away from heat and direct sunlight.
