Sulky Super Strong Heavy Cut-Away Stabiliser – 50cm x 5m

$47.00

Colour: Black
Sulky Super Strong · Heavy cut-away backing

Lasting support for stitch-heavy embroidery.

A firm, extra-heavy cut-away stabiliser for dense designs, detailed embroidery and heavier fabrics. Support remains beneath the stitching after the excess is trimmed away.

The 50cm-wide, 5m roll gives more cutting room without committing to a longer roll.

When to choose Super Strong

Dense designs

Give high-stitch-count embroidery a substantial backing beneath closely packed stitches and fine details.

Heavier fabrics and knits

A useful option for heavyweight materials and sweater knits when the project needs ongoing support.

Emblems and crests

Suitable designs can be stitched directly onto the backing. Unlike wash-away film, this foundation stays in the finished embroidery.

Choose white or black using the colour selector above. Each selection is for one roll, not a mixed pack.

Check the roll width against the area you need to cover, including enough material for secure hooping where required.

How to use it

  1. Place Super Strong under the fabric and hoop both layers securely. Select a backing size that covers the hoop with room to grip.
  2. Embroider your design, testing stitch density, tension and fabric suitability on a sample first.
  3. Hold the stabiliser rather than pulling the fabric, then carefully trim excess around the design. Leave the backing beneath the stitches.

This is a permanent cut-away, not a tear-away or water-soluble film. Its heavier structure can be too substantial for some light, sheer or softly draping fabrics; test the finished feel first.

Good to know

Should I tear the backing off?

No. Trim the excess with scissors, taking care not to cut the garment or stitching. The remaining backing provides continuing support.

Is it suitable for freestanding lace?

Not when the design requires the backing to dissolve completely. Use an appropriate water-soluble support such as Ultra Solvy for that technique.
