Madeira Weblon Plus · Lightweight cut-away backing

Permanent support without a heavy backing feel.

Weblon Plus is a lightweight cut-away for garment embroidery where a heavier backing would add unwanted bulk. It provides support for suitable knitwear, piqué and other fabrics that can be difficult to frame.

This white 55 g/m² roll measures 50cm x 10m. Its width gives you room to cut backing for larger embroidery areas or several smaller pieces.

Where it works best

Knitwear and piqué

Provide continuing support beneath embroidery on suitable knitted garments and piqué fabrics. Test without stretching the fabric during hooping so it can relax naturally afterwards.

A less bulky finish

Consider Weblon Plus when an embroidered area feels too substantial with a heavier backing. Assess the finished garment’s flexibility as well as the appearance of the stitching.

Wider hoop preparation

Cut a piece large enough for the design and the frame’s gripping area. The 50cm width offers flexibility, but check the dimensions of your own hoop.

How to use it

  1. Cut the required backing and place it beneath the fabric. Hoop both layers securely, keeping the fabric smooth and avoiding stretch.
  2. Embroider a sample using the final design and thread. Check density, fabric movement and finished feel before working on the garment.
  3. Trim the backing outside the design, holding the stabiliser clear of the fabric as you cut. Leave the layer beneath the stitching in place for continuing support.

This is the 55 g/m² Weblon Plus cut-away, not the separate Weblon Plus Fusible product. No iron activation is needed, and the backing does not dissolve after stitching.

Good to know

Will one layer support every design?

No single backing suits every combination. Test the actual fabric and design, and change the support if the stitch-out or finished feel is unsuitable.

Can the embroidery be heat-pressed afterwards?

Madeira lists this as a suitable application, but the fabric, thread and decoration also need to tolerate the process. Follow their individual pressing limits and test first.
