Madeira Super Strong · Heavyweight cut-away backing

Lasting support with a darker finish.

Choose black Super Strong for stitch-heavy embroidery on suitable dark fabrics. This heavyweight nonwoven stays under the finished design, providing a substantial backing after the excess around the embroidery is cut away.

The black 30cm x 5m roll is supplied individually. Cut each backing piece to suit the embroidery area and your hoop’s gripping allowance.

Where it works best

Dark garments

Use a black backing where a white layer would be visually distracting. Check show-through on your actual fabric before committing to the colour.

Detailed logos

Provide backing beneath lettering, emblems and motifs containing many small details. It remains within the stitched area to support the completed embroidery.

Dense designs

A useful option for suitable fabrics carrying closely packed stitches. Judge the weight of the backing together with the stitch-out so the finished area is not unnecessarily stiff.

How to use it

  1. Place a suitably sized piece of Super Strong beneath the fabric. Hoop both layers securely, keeping the fabric smooth without stretching it out of shape.
  2. Test the design and backing on matching material. Check stitch quality, the appearance of the reverse and how the embroidered area bends.
  3. Once sewing is complete, trim backing outside the design. Hold the stabiliser while cutting and take care not to lift the garment into the scissors.

Black cut-away can show through pale or sheer materials. It remains beneath the embroidery; use a different removal method if your project requires the support to disappear completely.

Good to know

Can I tear off the surplus?

No. Use scissors and cut carefully outside the embroidery. Pulling at a cut-away can place unnecessary strain on the stitches and fabric.

How is it different from Cotton Soft black?

Cotton Soft is a softer, lighter tear-away for temporary support. Super Strong is an 80 g/m² cut-away intended to remain beneath the design.
