Support embroidery on suitable dark fabrics with black Cotton Soft. This soft cotton nonwoven sits beneath the stitching, providing temporary support while keeping the backing colour closer to the surrounding material.

Where it works best
Lettering and appliqué
Support monograms, machine appliqué and decorative motifs on fabrics that suit tear-away stabilisation. It also provides support while sewing suitable buttonholes.
Flexible cutting
The continuous roll lets you prepare backing for different embroidery areas. Measure the hoop and allow sufficient extra material to grip securely around it.

How to use it
- Cut the backing to cover the hoop with an allowance around the edges. Lay it beneath the fabric and hoop both layers without stretching.
- Test the design on matching fabric before the final embroidery. Add another layer only if your test shows that the project needs more support.
- Support the finished stitches and carefully tear away the excess backing. Remove extra layers separately and keep the remaining roll protected in its packaging.
Black backing can show through pale or sheer fabrics. Cotton Soft is temporary tear-away support, not a replacement for permanent backing where stretch or stitch density requires it.

Is this the same as Cotton Soft white?
It is the black colour option in the same 30cm x 10m, 50 g/m² Cotton Soft tear-away range. This listing supplies black only.
Does it dissolve during washing?
No. Remove the surplus by tearing carefully after sewing. Some backing will remain within the stitched area; it is not water-soluble film.
