Schmetz · Industrial leather-cutting needles

A cutting point for considered leather stitching.

For compatible industrial lockstitch machines, Schmetz 16x230 R TW needles use a leather-cutting point rather than a standard textile point. Also identified as DBxF2 or 1738(A) LR, they are intended for leather sewing where the machine, thread and material suit the selected needle size and point.

Pack of 10 in one size. Options are labelled 14/90, 16/100 and 18/110.

Light leather projects

A choice for leather pieces within the capacity of a compatible industrial machine; check the result on matching offcuts.

Visible stitching

The LR-style cutting point can create slightly inclined stitches, making a sample especially useful when the seam is decorative.

Consistent repeat work

Once the combination works, keep the same leather, thread and needle size for repeat seams and check the point regularly.

Before you start

  1. Confirm the machine accepts this leather-point system and choose a suitable size for the leather and thread.
  2. Switch off the machine and install the needle in the orientation specified by the machine manufacturer.
  3. Test on the actual leather, checking stitch spacing, thread movement and the appearance on both sides.

Not intended for ordinary woven or knitted textiles. Avoid overly dense stitching that perforates the leather; test faux leather separately.

Good to know

Is this the same as a standard DBx1?

It is a related leather-point system, not the same point. Confirm the required system and leather application before substituting.

Can I use it in a household machine?

Only if the manual specifically requires this system. It is not a standard flat-shank household leather needle.
