Rios, Worsted, Mechita or Ultimate Sock?

Rios or Worsted?

Rios is a plied, 100% superwash merino yarn for defined stitches and everyday garments. Worsted is a soft single-ply, non-superwash merino with a different surface and care requirement. Both sit in the worsted/10 ply shopping group, but their construction and finished fabric are not identical.

Mechita or Ultimate Sock?

Mechita is a single-ply superwash merino for shawls, lightweight garments and projects where softness and drape matter. Ultimate Sock blends 75% superwash merino with 25% nylon, making it the more purpose-focused choice for fine socks exposed to rubbing. Both are fingering/4 ply weights.

Working with hand-dyed yarn

Colour variation is part of the character of hand-dyed yarn. Hanks with the same colour name can differ, and pooling changes with stitch count and tension. Buy enough together, compare the hanks before starting, and consider alternating hanks to soften visible changes across a larger garment. Wind hanks into usable balls before knitting or crocheting. Compare hand-dyed yarns across brands.

Check gauge and care before starting

Use the pattern's gauge and metreage as your starting point. Follow the label for your particular base: superwash does not mean unrestricted hot washing or tumble drying. Explore 4 ply yarn, 10 ply and Aran yarn and patterns for your next project.
