Husqvarna Opal 650 FAQs

Answers to common questions about the Opal 650 computerised sewing machine.

Who is the Husqvarna Opal 650 best suited to?

The Opal 650 is well suited to confident beginners, intermediate sewists and experienced users upgrading from a mechanical or older computerised machine. It is particularly useful for dressmaking, quilting, home furnishings and creative decorative sewing.

Is the Opal 650 computerised?

Yes. It is a computerised sewing machine with an illuminated graphic display, push-button stitch selection, automatic stitch settings, programmable functions and permanent memories.

What does the SEWING ADVISOR® do?

Select your fabric type and sewing technique and the Sewing Advisor recommends a suitable stitch, stitch length, width, sewing speed, needle, presser foot, tension and presser foot pressure.

Does the Opal 650 adjust thread tension automatically?

The Opal 650 displays the recommended thread tension, which you then set using the manual tension dial. This gives you clear guidance while retaining manual control when using speciality threads or techniques.

How many stitches does the Opal 650 include?

It includes 160 utility and decorative stitches up to 7mm wide. These cover garment construction, stretch sewing, quilting, heirloom, appliqué, satin, decorative and speciality techniques.

Are the built-in fonts embroidery?

No. The Opal 650 is a sewing machine rather than an embroidery machine. Its three fonts are formed using programmed sewing stitches and are ideal for names, dates, labels and short messages.

Can the Opal 650 sew without a foot controller?

Yes. The start/stop button lets you run and stop the machine without the foot controller. You can also choose from five electronic speed levels.

Is the Opal 650 suitable for quilting?

Yes. Its 200mm sewing area, quilting stitches, adjustable speed, needle stop up/down, 29 needle positions and drop-feed capability make it a versatile option for piecing, appliqué, straight-line and selected free-motion quilting.

How do the automatic buttonholes work?

Enter the button size and attach the Sensor One-Step Buttonhole Foot. The foot measures the buttonhole while sewing so repeated buttonholes are produced at a consistent size. Seven buttonhole styles are available.

Does the Opal 650 have an automatic thread cutter?

The Opal 650 has convenient built-in manual thread cutters, but it does not have the push-button automatic thread-cutting function found on selected higher Opal models.

What support is available after purchase?

Direct Sewing provides local product advice, applicable warranty assistance and ongoing technical support. The Henderson location also includes a showroom, service centre and technical workshop.

Does Direct Sewing deliver throughout New Zealand?

Yes. Direct Sewing offers nationwide delivery. Current delivery terms and any free-shipping offer will be shown on the product page or during checkout.
