Match the code on both parts, not the cable colour or needle diameter alone. TWIST and SPIN components can be combined when the join size matches.
Shorties have different size ranges
Red 7230-M: 2–3.25mm, [M] join. Blue 7230-S: 3.5–5mm, [S] join. Yellow 7230-L: 5.5–8mm, [L] join. Standard MINI sets 7400-M and 7500-M have longer tips and a different diameter range: 1.5–2.5mm. MINI does not mean Shorties.
Adapters work in a specific direction
2501-A connects a Large [L] tip to a Small [S] cable. 2501-AM connects a Small [S] tip to a MINI [M] cable. Check the product details before ordering; different join sizes do not screw together directly.
Cable length is not finished circular length
Add both tips to the cable length. Two 10cm tips plus a 20cm cable make approximately 40cm overall; 13cm tips are too long for a comfortable 40cm circular. Check the listing's measurement convention.
Which ChiaoGoo needles should I choose?
A set, fixed circulars or separate tips?
Choose a TWIST or SPIN interchangeable set for a range of needle sizes and cable combinations. Fixed circulars keep one needle size permanently joined to one cable; this range includes RED Lace, short Knit RED and Patina bamboo options. Separate tips and cables let you add to an existing compatible kit. Compare each set's actual contents before ordering.
Steel, bamboo or a specialist tip?
TWIST offers stainless-steel lace tips; SPIN offers bamboo interchangeable needles. The range also includes QUADS stainless-steel tips and FORTÉ steel-and-carbon-fibre tips. Choose the surface and handhold you prefer, then check tip length, diameter and join code on the product page.
Socks, sleeves and small rounds
Shorties use compact 5cm and/or 8cm tips, depending on the set. Prefer double-pointed needles? Compare the 15cm bamboo and stainless-steel DPN sock sets. Tunisian crochet has its own T-SPIN bamboo hook set. Follow your pattern's tool size and method; these are different ways of working, not interchangeable purchases.
