Finish fabric edges, prepare quilt binding or add a piped seam. Compare bias tape makers, ready-made binding, piping materials and machine attachments, then choose by finished width, fabric and exact machine fitting.

Choosing bias binding, piping & the right attachment

Prepare a folded strip

Handheld bias tape makers fold prepared fabric strips for pressing; check the finished width and the strip-width instructions. PQW quilt-binding tools help prepare folded strips and binding joins using each tool’s method.

Choose binding or piping materials

Ready-made binding finishes an edge; piping adds a raised corded seam. Match the cord diameter to the piping foot’s groove and your project. Decorative fusible bias tape and piping interfacing have their own application instructions; check the fabric’s heat tolerance before pressing.

Check the machine and tape preparation

Domestic, coverstitch and industrial feet or folders use different fittings. Check your complete model, part reference, any adapter and the required tape preparation. A tape guide or reel holder supports the tape supply; it is separate from the folder that forms the binding.

For a quilt edge, compare sewing and quilting clips to hold layers as you work.
