Does air threading also set the tension?
No. Threading and tension are separate systems. Air moves the looper threads through their channels; tension controls how the needle and looper threads meet around the fabric edge. An air-threaded machine can still produce loose loops, tunnelling or an exposed fabric edge if the tension, cutting width, stitch length, differential feed or presser-foot pressure is not suited to the fabric.
There are three common approaches to overlocker tension:
