Overlock, Coverstitch and Chainstitch
The Amber Air S 500 is a true coverlock machine, combining the
fabric-trimming and seam-finishing capabilities of an overlocker with
the professional hemming capabilities of a coverstitch machine.
Create durable overlocked seams, neat rolled edges, flat decorative
stitching, stretchy cover hems and strong chainstitch construction
without needing two separate machines.
Frequently asked questions
Amber Air S 500 FAQs
Is the Amber Air S 500 an overlocker or a coverstitch machine?
It is both. The S 500 is a combination coverlock machine that can
create overlocked seams and edge finishes as well as professional
coverstitch hems and chainstitching.
Which threads are handled by the air-threading system?
The one-touch electronic air system threads the machine's loopers.
The needle threads follow clearly marked manual paths, with a
needle-threader accessory supplied to assist.
How many stitches does the Amber Air S 500 have?
It offers 23 stitches using five, four, three or two threads. These
include coverstitches, chainstitch, safety stitches, overlock
stitches, rolled edges, narrow edges and flatlock stitches.
Does the S 500 set the tension automatically?
Yes. Selecting a stitch on the automatic tension dial sets the
recommended thread tensions. Fine adjustments can still be made for
specialised fabric or thread combinations.
What coverstitches can the machine produce?
The S 500 can sew triple coverstitch, wide double coverstitch,
narrow double coverstitch and chainstitch.
Can it produce professional T-shirt hems?
Yes. The coverstitch options are ideal for creating flexible,
ready-to-wear-style hems on T-shirts, activewear and other knit
garments.
Does it have differential feed?
Yes. The differential feed is manually adjustable to help control
stretching or puckering. It can also be used to create gathering and
decorative lettuce-edge effects.
Can the Amber Air S 500 sew heavier fabrics?
Its electronic piercing power, adjustable presser-foot pressure and
extra presser-foot height help it manage a wide variety of fabrics.
Needle, thread and stitch settings should always be matched to the
material and number of layers being sewn.
Does the machine have a free arm?
Yes. Removing the accessory bed reveals the free arm, which makes it
easier to sew cuffs, children's clothing and other tubular areas.
Are the extension table and knee lift included?
Yes. The extension table and knee lift are included with the standard
machine package.
What is the difference between the S 500 and S 600?
The S 500 uses direct dial controls, offers 23 stitches and sews at
up to 1,100 stitches per minute. The S 600 adds a colour touchscreen,
on-screen Sewing Advisor, additional automation, 26 stitches and a
higher maximum speed.
