  • Compact single-cup design made for smaller rulers and templates.
  • Comfortable raised handle supports a more secure, relaxed hand position.
  • Quick to move between tools when your project uses several rulers.

Better control where your ruler needs it

A flat ruler can be awkward to hold securely while keeping fingers away from the blade path. The Little Gypsy Gripper lifts your hand above the ruler and gives you a dedicated handle for holding, moving and positioning it.

More confident positioning

Lift and place a compatible ruler without repeatedly pinching its edges or sliding fingers underneath.

Even downward pressure

Rest your hand naturally over the handle to help apply steady pressure across the cutting surface.

More hand-to-blade distance

The raised grip helps keep fingers away from the ruler edge used to guide a rotary cutter.

Simple to attach and reposition

Three steps to a steadier grip

Use the gripper on a clean, flat and smooth ruler or template surface. Check that it is firmly attached every time before lifting or cutting.

Before you begin

  • Wipe dust and lint from the ruler and suction cup.
  • Choose a clear area away from the ruler's hanging hole.
  • Confirm the ruler is large enough for the complete suction cup.
  • Test the hold before bringing a rotary cutter to the ruler.
1

Place

Position the suction cup fully on a clean, uninterrupted area of the smooth ruler or template.

2

Secure and test

Press the gripper into place, then gently test that it has attached before moving the ruler or starting a cut.

3

Hold and cut

Rest your hand comfortably on the handle, apply steady downward pressure and keep the other hand clear of the blade path.

Surface requirement: the ruler or template must be at least 2 1/4 inches across, excluding its hanging hole, and must provide enough clean, smooth, flat surface for the complete suction cup.
Made for the jobs that feel fiddly by hand

Useful for cutting, template placement and ruler work

A particularly good choice for

  • Small and medium acrylic quilting rulers
  • Smooth patchwork templates
  • Rotary cutting fabric and strips
  • Repositioning rulers during repeat cuts
  • Beginners building rotary-cutting confidence
  • Compatible machine-quilting templates used for ruler work

Check compatibility first when using

  • Very small rulers with limited clear surface
  • Rulers with a hanging hole beneath the cup
  • Textured, frosted, curved or damaged surfaces
  • Dirty, dusty or damp rulers
  • Flexible templates that cannot support suction
  • Any tool that does not allow the full cup to sit flat
For larger rulers: the original two-cup Gypsy Gripper may offer a broader hold. This Little version is designed to travel easily between smaller rulers and templates.

Little Gypsy Gripper FAQs

What comes in the pack?

You receive one Little Gypsy Gripper with a single suction cup. A ruler, rotary cutter and other project tools are not included.

Will it fit every quilting ruler?

No. It needs a clean, smooth, flat area large enough for the full suction cup. The ruler or template must be at least 2 1/4 inches across, excluding the hanging hole.

Can it attach over a ruler's hanging hole?

No. A hanging hole interrupts the seal. Position the cup on a solid, smooth part of the ruler and test the hold before use.

Is it only for rotary cutting?

Rotary cutting is a key use, but it can also help move and hold compatible smooth templates. It is also useful with suitable machine-quilting templates designed for ruler work.

How is the Little Gripper different from the original Gypsy Gripper?

The Little Gripper has a compact single-cup format intended for smaller rulers and templates. The original model uses a larger two-cup design for broader rulers.

Why might the suction release?

Dust, lint, moisture, texture, scratches, a curved surface or a hanging hole beneath the cup can prevent a complete seal. Clean both surfaces, reposition the cup and test it again before continuing.

Does it make rotary cutting completely safe?

No tool removes every cutting risk. The raised handle helps improve grip and hand placement, but you should still follow safe rotary-cutting practice at all times.
