SEWMATE · EVERYDAY SEWING ESSENTIALS
Small enough to pack.
Useful every time you sew.
Missed a matching point or sewn a piece the wrong way round? The SewMate Small Unpicker helps you lift and cut unwanted stitches so you can make the correction and carry on.
Also known as a seam ripper, this compact tool measures 6.5 cm without its cap and 8 cm with the cap fitted. It takes up little room in a sewing pouch, class kit or machine accessory box.
A little room in your kit. A lot of everyday use.
Sewing & alterations
Undo a misplaced seam, release stitching before adjusting a hem, or remove temporary tacking once your permanent stitching is in place.
Patchwork corrections
Unpick an incorrectly joined patchwork piece or a seam that needs realigning before sewing it again.
Mending on hand
Keep one in a small sewing kit for taking out old stitches before repairs, whether you sew at home or take projects to a class.
Lift, cut and gently remove
- Lift a stitch: slide the pointed tip under the thread, keeping the fabric clear of the cutting notch.
- Cut a few stitches: guide the thread into the notch and work along a short section.
- Clear the seam: gently remove the loosened thread, then repeat as needed.
Take your time: the small ball on the shorter tip is not a guarantee against fabric damage. Work carefully, especially on delicate fabrics. Replace the cap after use and keep the sharp tool out of children's reach.
Prefer a longer handle?
Choose this small unpicker when compact storage matters. If you prefer more handle to hold, see the SewMate Large Unpicker, 13 cm.
