  • Lightweight Aran fabric for garments, layers and accessories.

Simple stitches suddenly look spectacular

Jewelspun blends jewel-like tones and earthy colour into one continuous strand. Stocking stitch, garter stitch, rib, crochet rows and textured patterns all become more expressive as the shades shift across the work.

There is no charted colourwork to follow and no pile of separate balls to organise. Cast on with your chosen colourway and watch the stripe sequence reveal itself one row at a time.

  • No manual colour changes
  • Knit and crochet friendly
  • Interesting in simple stitches
  • Machine-washable practicality
How self-striping yarn behaves

Your project shape helps design the stripes

The same Jewelspun colourway can look different from one project to the next. Row length, stitch choice and construction all influence how quickly each colour travels across the fabric.

01

Narrow rows

Hats, sleeves and scarves tend to show broader-looking colour bands because each row uses less yarn.

02

Wide rows

Shawls, blankets and garment bodies use more yarn per row, so the colour can shift more quickly across the fabric.

03

In the round

Continuous rounds create an uninterrupted spiral of colour with no side seam to break the sequence.

What will you make?

One big ball. A long list of possibilities.

01

Scarves + shawls

Let long rows display the changing shades in wraps, triangular shawls and statement scarves.

02

Sweaters + cardigans

Turn relaxed silhouettes and uncomplicated stitches into colourful wearable layers.

03

Blankets + throws

Create eye-catching crochet blankets and knitted throws without joining a new shade for every stripe.

04

Hats + accessories

Make useful gifts and smaller projects that showcase the colour flow with very little fuss.

How many balls? Sirdar notes that the generous metreage makes one- and two-ball projects possible. Always follow your chosen pattern’s metreage and make a tension square before buying for a fitted garment or a specific finished size.

Sirdar Jewelspun Aran FAQs

Is Sirdar Jewelspun made from wool?

No. Original Jewelspun Aran is 100% acrylic. If you want wool in the blend, choose the separate Jewelspun With Wool Chunky range, which is thicker and uses different tools and patterns.

What does self-striping mean?

The yarn changes colour along the strand, so stripes and blended colour sections appear as you work. You do not need to join a new ball for every colour change.

Can I use Jewelspun for both knitting and crochet?

Yes. Sirdar recommends 5mm needles or a 5mm crochet hook as the starting point for this Aran-weight yarn.

Is Jewelspun suitable for beginners?

Yes. The colour effect makes straightforward stitches look more detailed, so beginners can create an impressive result without learning stranded colourwork first.

Can I make a project with one ball?

One ball contains approximately 500m, making it a strong choice for accessories and patterns designed as one-ball projects. Always check the exact pattern metreage, size and tension before starting.

Will two balls begin with exactly the same colour?

Not necessarily. Balls of the same shade can begin at different points in the colour sequence. If colour placement matters, compare your balls and unwind to a similar point before joining.

Can Jewelspun go in the washing machine?

Yes. Machine wash on a wool cycle, wash dark colours separately, reshape while wet and dry flat. Do not tumble dry or iron.

Is a pattern or tool included with the yarn?

No. This product is one 200g ball of yarn in your selected shade. Patterns, knitting needles and crochet hooks are sold separately.
