Quilters
Generous workspace, Original IDT, a quarter-inch foot, straight-stitch plate, three free-motion modes and automatic presser-foot features support piecing through quilting.
The PFAFF quilt expression 720 Special Edition is a spacious, highly capable computerised sewing machine created for quilters and ambitious makers. Original IDT integrated dual feed, 428 stitches, Stitch Creator, intelligent automation and an exclusive five-foot kit bring demanding projects under beautifully considered control.
428 stitches • Original IDT • 250mm space
This is the machine for anyone who wants room for a quilt, control over shifting layers and creative features that go far beyond ordinary utility sewing. Its full-size platform remains equally at home with garments, bags, appliqué, home décor and expressive stitchwork.
Generous workspace, Original IDT, a quarter-inch foot, straight-stitch plate, three free-motion modes and automatic presser-foot features support piecing through quilting.
Automatic buttonholes, adjustable settings, built-in threading, thread snips, knee lift and excellent feed control streamline construction and finishing.
Build and edit 9mm stitches, combine sequences, taper designs and explore ribbon, floating, stacking and 52mm Maxi stitch techniques.
Large space and coordinated feeding are valuable when handling matched seams, long lengths and manageable multi-layer domestic projects.
Needle control, speed adjustment, mirror and positioning functions, tapering and the Special Edition open-toe foot make detail work easier to see.
Let the automatic settings support everyday sewing, then take deeper control as your techniques and creative ambitions expand.
These genuine PFAFF images show the working space, touchscreen, integrated feed system and specialist accessory kit that distinguish the quilt expression 720 Special Edition.

The nearly 10-inch working area helps you position, support and manoeuvre bulky fabric to the right of the needle.

Choose, adjust and combine stitches—or use Stitch Creator to edit individual stitch points and design something new.

A refined silver-grey finish and dimensional detailing give this capable full-size machine a distinctly premium identity.

Use controlled feeding, adjustable speed and three free-motion modes for patchwork, quilting, thread painting and surface detail.

The exclusive kit covers narrow edges, invisible zips, piping, couching or braiding and open-toe appliqué work.
PFAFF's Original IDT system works behind an IDT-compatible presser foot while the lower feed teeth move the fabric from below. This coordinated feeding helps reduce creeping between layers and supports more consistent seams across quilts, stripes, checks and slippery or uneven combinations.

The Special Edition keeps the premium quilt expression 720 feature set and adds a distinctive finish plus an exclusive five-foot accessory kit. These are useful, project-led additions—not filler accessories.
In practical terms: choose the Special Edition when you want the recognised 720 quilting and sewing platform with more techniques available from the day it arrives.

Guides accurate topstitching and edge stitching while retaining integrated feeding.
Opens and guides invisible-zip coils so the stitch line can sit close to the teeth.
Supports neatly covered cord for garments, cushions, bags and decorative seams.
Guides suitable cord, yarn or braid while the IDT system supports fabric movement.
Improves visibility around decorative stitches, appliqué edges and detailed placement.

Utility stitches are only the beginning. The quilt expression 720 Special Edition combines practical sewing, quilting, decorative, heirloom and lettering choices with PFAFF's distinctive wide and layered stitch techniques.
Stitch Creator lets you create new 9mm stitches or edit built-in stitches point by point. Creative Signature tools then let you customise density, position, tapering, mirroring and repeats.
Side-motion technology creates statement stitches dramatically wider than the normal 9mm stitch width.
Create the appearance of connected stitches floating across the fabric surface.
Explore single, double and triple ribbon techniques for dimensional decorative effects.
Combine complementary stitches in layers to build richer customised embellishment.
Personalise suitable projects with built-in lettering and programmable sequences.
Repeat a saved seam length or apply twin-needle limits for more deliberate results.
The 720 is designed to keep your hands on the work and the essential controls close by. Automatic settings give you a confident starting point, while specialist techniques remain adjustable when you need them to be.
See sewing information, settings and stitch previews on the 8.9cm / 3.5in diagonal display.
The machine sets a recommended tension automatically and lets you override it for speciality work.
Cut the top and bobbin threads at the touch of a control for a cleaner, faster finish.
Supports efficient stops and pivots without repeatedly reaching behind the needle area.
Raise the presser foot while keeping both hands available to guide the project.
Alerts you when bobbin thread is running low before it unexpectedly disappears into a long seam.
Choose the preferred stopping position for pivots, corners, appliqué and quilting control.
Sew without the foot controller when suitable and limit top speed for detailed or unfamiliar work.

The 250mm needle-to-tower area creates valuable room without turning the machine into an oversized embroidery system. A quarter-inch IDT foot and sensor-equipped straight-stitch plate support piecing, while the automatic feed-dog drop and three free-motion modes help you transition into quilting, thread painting or darning.
An included ¼in quilting foot works with IDT for consistent piecing guidance.
The machine detects the included straight-stitch plate and restricts unsuitable settings.
Select the mode that suits the foot and technique; the feed teeth lower automatically.
Slow the maximum speed for points, curves, ruler setup or developing free-motion confidence.
Keep the needle in the work while the presser foot rises for controlled repositioning.
Use a stable table and support the quilt's weight so it does not pull against the needle.
Accurate feeding, quarter-inch guidance, repeatable seam tools and large working space.
Three free-motion modes, automatic feed-dog drop, needle down and speed control.
Utility and stretch stitches, buttonholes, invisible zips, free arm and controlled seam feeding.
Space, piping, topstitching and layer control for suitable domestic bag-making materials.
Long seams, cushions, piping, decorative borders, appliqué and 52mm Maxi stitches.
Precision placement, stitch editing, tapering and decorative techniques for refined finishes.
Couching, braiding, ribbon, stacking, floating and side-motion stitch possibilities.
Four sewing fonts and sequence memory for labels, messages and decorative repeats.
Free-arm access, zipper feet, blindhem foot and practical utility stitches for everyday work.

| Material or project | How the 720 helps | Set up for success |
|---|---|---|
| Quilting cotton + patchwork | Original IDT, ¼in foot, straight-stitch plate and 250mm workspace | Use a suitable quilting needle, quality thread and support the quilt's weight. |
| Knits + stretch fabrics | Stretch stitches, adjustable settings and controlled feeding | Fit the correct stretch or jersey needle; an overlocker may still be preferable for selected finishes. |
| Slippery or matched fabrics | IDT helps coordinate upper and lower layers | Use an IDT-compatible foot, fine pins or clips and test on scraps first. |
| Denim, canvas + bag layers | Strong domestic platform, speed control and generous workspace | Use the correct sharp/denim needle, level bulky seam transitions and work within domestic-machine limits. |
| Vinyl or leather-like materials | Adjustable settings and optional specialist feet can improve feeding | Test needle, stitch length and foot choice on an offcut; avoid unsuitable dense or very thick assemblies. |
| Continuous heavy upholstery or production work | Not its intended role | Choose an appropriate industrial machine when material, thickness or daily duty demands it. |

Contact Direct SewingIt is a premium full-size computerised domestic sewing and quilting machine. It combines a large 250mm workspace, Original IDT integrated dual feed, 428 stitches and advanced quilting and stitch-design features. It is not an embroidery machine or an industrial sewing machine.
The Special Edition retains the full quilt expression 720 feature platform and adds exclusive silver-grey styling plus five bonus feet: Narrow Edge Foot for IDT, Invisible Zipper Foot, Piping Foot, Couching / Braiding Foot for IDT and Open Toe Appliqué Foot for IDT.
Yes. Original IDT is PFAFF's integrated dual-feed system. With a compatible foot engaged, it works with the lower feed teeth to help upper and lower fabric layers move more consistently.
There is 250mm—nearly 10 inches—between the needle and the machine tower. The actual project also needs clear, supported space around the machine so its weight does not drag against the needle.
It includes 428 stitches, including utility, quilting, decorative and exclusive PFAFF stitch techniques. Standard stitches can be up to 9mm wide, while side-motion Maxi stitches can reach up to 52mm wide.
Stitch Creator lets you edit the individual points of a built-in 9mm stitch or create a new 9mm stitch. This is sewing-machine stitch design; it does not import or sew hoop-embroidery files.
The machine includes floating stitches, stacking stitches and single, double and triple ribbon stitches, alongside wide Maxi stitches and a broad range of conventional sewing and quilting stitches.
Yes. The machine selects a suitable tension automatically for the chosen stitch and settings. You can override that value on screen when a speciality thread, fabric or technique needs a different result.
It has a built-in assisted needle threader, not a one-touch fully automatic threading system. Follow the threading path and use the built-in lever as shown in the manual.
Yes. Use the start/stop control for suitable sewing, and set a comfortable maximum speed with the digital speed control. The foot controller is also included for conventional operation.
They cut the top and bobbin threads at the end of suitable sewing. This reduces reaching for scissors and helps keep the work area tidier, although some speciality techniques still call for manual thread handling.
Yes. Choose from three free-motion modes for quilting, thread painting or darning. The feed teeth lower automatically when the selected mode requires it, and the standard package includes the Embroidery / Sensormatic Free-motion foot 6A.
Yes. A ¼in Quilting Foot for the IDT system is included, along with a straight-stitch plate and edge guide.
When the included straight-stitch plate is fitted, the machine recognises it and prevents an incompatible side-to-side needle setting. This helps protect the needle and plate during straight-stitch piecing.
It can handle many suitable domestic denim, canvas and bag-making projects when correctly set up. Use the right needle and thread, reduce speed at bulky transitions and avoid forcing material. For very dense assemblies or continuous heavy production, choose an appropriate industrial machine.
Yes. Select an appropriate stretch stitch and fit a jersey, stretch or other suitable needle for the fabric. A sewing machine and overlocker produce different seams and finishes, so some knit projects benefit from using both.
Yes. PFAFF provides a model support page with the current quilt expression 720 update and USB instructions. Use only the correct official file and follow the manufacturer's update sequence carefully.
It measures approximately 50 x 22 x 31cm and weighs approximately 11.2kg. It is a substantial full-size domestic machine, so plan a stable surface and safe lifting position.
A demonstration is strongly worthwhile for a machine at this level. It lets you experience Original IDT, the touchscreen, automatic presser-foot lift, Stitch Creator and free-motion setup, and gives you the chance to discuss delivery, training, the included package and current NZ warranty with Direct Sewing.
Choose the PFAFF quilt expression 720 Special Edition when quilting is central to your sewing—but garments, appliqué, home décor and original stitch design matter too.
