The Original IDT system

Coordinated feeding for the seams people notice

PFAFF's integrated dual feed works with the lower feed teeth to move suitable fabric layers from above and below. With an IDT-compatible foot fitted and engaged, it helps reduce creeping and shifting through matched, slippery or layered work.

Checks + stripesHelps upper and lower motifs arrive at the seam in better alignment.
Patchwork pointsSupports controlled feeding as intersections and layered seam allowances pass under the foot.
Slippery fabricsGives compatible layers additional guidance when one surface wants to move differently.
Long seamsHelps top and bottom layers finish closer together instead of gradually drifting apart.

The Special Edition advantage

Five genuinely useful feet extend the project range

The exclusive finish gives the 710 Special Edition its distinctive identity, but the real working advantage is the five-foot kit. Each foot adds a recognisable sewing technique instead of simply increasing the accessory count.

Combined with the eight standard presser feet, this creates an unusually broad 13-foot package for a machine at this level.

Exclusive five-foot kit for the PFAFF expression 710 Special Edition
Narrow Edge Foot for IDT

Guides accurate edge stitching and topstitching while retaining integrated feed.

Invisible Zipper Foot

Opens and guides the zip coils so stitching can sit neatly beside the teeth.

Piping Foot

Supports neatly covered cord for cushions, garments, bags and decorative seams.

Couching / Braiding Foot for IDT

Guides suitable yarn, cord or braid while compatible fabrics remain IDT-fed.

Open Toe Appliqué Foot for IDT

Improves visibility around decorative stitches, appliqué edges and detailed placement.

Creative range without an embroidery unit

247 stitches, three fonts and meaningful customisation

Move from utility seams and stretch stitches to buttonholes, quilting, appliqué, heirloom detail, satin stitches, decorative borders and personalised lettering without changing machines.

Creative Signature tools let you customise suitable stitches through precise tapering, stitch positioning, mirror imaging, density changes and twin-needle settings. Sequencing then combines stitches and lettering into longer arrangements.

Utility + stretch stitches

Everyday seams, overcasting, mending, hems and suitable knit construction form the practical foundation.

Sensormatic buttonholes

The included 5A foot sews balanced one-step buttonholes to the programmed size.

Decorative stitches up to 9mm

Add borders, texture, appliqué edges and expressive surface detail.

Three sewing fonts

Program names, labels, dates and short messages into suitable projects.

Stitch tapering

Create clean angled beginnings and endings on compatible decorative stitches.

Sequencing + mirroring

Arrange stitch combinations and reverse suitable designs to suit the layout.

Automation that supports the maker

Fewer interruptions between idea and finished seam

The 710 handles frequent setup and finishing moments intelligently while leaving speed and stitch adjustments accessible on screen.

Colour touchscreen

See stitches at real size and review sewing information on the 3.5in diagonal display.

Self-adjusting tension

The machine selects a suitable starting tension for the chosen technique and fabric.

Automatic thread snips

Cut the top and bobbin threads at the touch of a control for a quicker finish.

Automatic presser-foot lift

When the needle is set to stop down, the foot can lift immediately for efficient pivoting.

Bobbin thread sensor

Receive an alert as bobbin thread runs low rather than finding out midway through a long seam.

Built-in needle threader

The assisted threading lever helps draw thread through the needle eye.

Needle up/down

Choose the preferred stopping position for corners, appliqué, topstitching and quilting.

Start/stop + speed control

Sew without the foot controller when suitable and limit maximum speed for detailed work.

Frequently asked questions

PFAFF expression 710 Special Edition FAQs

What kind of machine is the PFAFF expression 710 Special Edition?

It is a premium full-size computerised domestic sewing machine designed for garments, patchwork, quilting, home décor and creative stitchwork. It is not an embroidery machine or an industrial sewing machine.

What makes this the Special Edition?

The Special Edition combines exclusive styling with five bonus feet: Narrow Edge Foot for IDT, Invisible Zipper Foot, Piping Foot, Couching / Braiding Foot for IDT and Open Toe Appliqué Foot for IDT.

How many presser feet are included?

Thirteen presser feet are included: eight in the standard 710 package plus the five Special Edition feet. The package also includes the foot controller, soft cover, bobbins, needles and essential setup and care tools.

Does it include Original IDT?

Yes. PFAFF's integrated dual-feed system works with the lower feed teeth to help suitable upper and lower layers move together when an IDT-compatible foot is engaged.

How much sewing space does it have?

There is 250mm / 9.8 inches between the needle and the machine tower. This is valuable for quilts, coats, bags, curtains and other larger projects.

How many stitches does the expression 710 have?

The current official highlights and specification table list 247 built-in stitches. They include utility, stretch, quilting, buttonhole, decorative and creative choices up to 9mm wide.

Does it have built-in lettering?

Yes. It includes three sewing fonts that can be programmed into names, dates, labels and short messages. These are stitched lettering fonts, not hoop-embroidery fonts.

What is Creative Signature?

Creative Signature is PFAFF's group of stitch-customisation functions. On suitable stitches you can adjust tapering, position, mirror image, density and twin-needle settings, then build sequences for longer arrangements.

Does the 710 have Stitch Creator?

No. Stitch Creator—the point-by-point creation and editing of 9mm stitches—is a quilt expression 720 feature. The 710 can still adjust and sequence its extensive built-in stitch collection.

Does it automatically set the thread tension?

Yes. The machine automatically selects an appropriate upper-thread tension for the chosen stitch and settings. Always test speciality fabric and thread combinations on a project offcut.

Does it have an automatic needle threader?

It has a built-in assisted needle threader, not a one-touch fully automatic threading system. Follow the upper threading path and use the built-in lever as shown in the manual.

Can I sew without the foot controller?

Yes. Use start/stop for suitable sewing and control the maximum speed with the digital speed slider. The conventional foot controller is also included.

What does the automatic presser-foot lift do?

When the needle is set to stop down, the presser foot can raise immediately so the fabric can pivot or be repositioned. The 710 does not include the electronic knee lift supplied with the 720.

Can the expression 710 free-motion quilt?

Yes. A Sensormatic free-motion foot is included, and the feed teeth lower automatically for the supported free-motion setup. Use speed control, the correct needle and a well-supported quilt while developing the technique.

Is a quarter-inch piecing foot included?

Yes. The standard package includes a ¼in Piecing Foot for patchwork seam guidance.

Can it sew denim, canvas or bags?

It can handle many suitable domestic denim, canvas and bag-making projects with the correct needle, thread, stitch and speed. Level bulky seam transitions and never force material. Dense assemblies or continuous heavy production call for an appropriate industrial machine.

Can it sew knits?

Yes. Choose a suitable stretch stitch and fit the correct jersey or stretch needle. Some knit projects still benefit from an overlocker for specialised construction and finishing.

How does the 710 differ from the quilt expression 720?

Both have 250mm of space, Original IDT, colour screens and the five Special Edition feet. The 720 adds 428 stitches, four fonts, Stitch Creator, Maxi stitches up to 52mm, three free-motion modes, an electronic knee lift, a straight-stitch plate sensor and a larger standard accessory package.

Can the machine software be updated?

Yes. The official expression 710 support page provides the current update and USB instructions. Use only the correct official file and follow the manufacturer sequence carefully.

How large and heavy is the machine?

It measures approximately 50 x 22 x 31cm and weighs approximately 10.9kg. Plan a stable table and a safe lifting position.

Should I arrange a demonstration?

A demonstration is an excellent idea for a machine at this level. It lets you experience IDT, the colour screen, presser-foot lift, automatic tension and stitch controls, and compare the 710 directly with the 720 before deciding.

Give ambitious sewing room to grow

Premium PFAFF control, without paying for features you may never use.

Choose the expression 710 Special Edition when Original IDT, generous workspace, thoughtful automation and a strong creative package matter more than maximum stitch complexity.
