Four steps for controlled rotary cutting
The cover does not retract automatically. Open it only when the cutter is on the mat and ready to use, then close it fully as soon as the cut is complete.
Prepare the surface
Lay the material flat on a self-healing cutting mat and remove every pin, clip and hard fastener from the blade path.
Expose the blade
Pull the sliding blade cover towards you only when you are ready to make the cut.
Keep the blade vertical
Cut away from your body with smooth, controlled pressure and keep fingers safely behind the ruler edge.
Close the cover
Slide the cover fully over the blade before setting down, carrying, changing or storing the cutter.
Open the cover, cut on a mat, then cover the blade
Pull the cover towards you to expose the blade, then close it fully when cutting is finished.
Press the blade against the material on a proper cutting mat and guide the cutter smoothly.
Sharp blade safety: the manual cover helps protect the edge but does not make this cutter child-safe or injury-proof. Keep hands clear of the cutting line, work away from your body and close the cover immediately after every cutting session.

Correct assembly supports safe, smooth rotation
Follow the OLFA diagram when replacing the blade
Cover the blade before loosening the assembly. Lay each component down in order and reinstall it in the correct orientation for right- or left-handed use.
- Close the manual blade cover fully before starting.
- Place the cutter on a stable surface rather than working in your palm.
- Handle a replacement blade by the centre, never by the cutting edge.
- Reinstall the blade, washer and nut in the order shown by OLFA.
- Check that the blade rotates freely and that the cover closes completely.

Does the blade retract automatically?
No. RTY-2/G uses a manual sliding blade cover. Pull the cover towards you to expose the blade, then close it fully as soon as the cut is complete.
Can a left-handed person use it?
Yes. OLFA specifies the cutter for right- and left-handed users. Reverse the blade assembly and reinstall every component in the correct orientation.
Which replacement blades fit?
Use OLFA RB45 standard blades or the compatible RB45H Endurance blade. Decorative 45mm wave and pinking blades are not specified for this straight-handle model.
Is an Endurance blade included?
