The MyLock 454D is an excellent choice for sewists ready to replace slow zigzag edge finishing with faster, cleaner and more professional overlocking.
It trims the raw fabric edge while wrapping it securely in thread. Four-thread overlocking can sew and finish stretch seams in one operation, while three-thread configurations are ideal for neatening woven seams, decorative finishing, rolled hems and flatlock effects.
The machine uses straightforward colour-coded threading, slide-in tension guides and an accessible lower-looper mechanism. It is conventionally threaded rather than air threaded, keeping the operation familiar and mechanically uncomplicated.

Slide-in tension guides and colour-coded paths
The MyLock 454D is conventionally threaded, with each route clearly organised and identified.
Raise the presser foot to release the tension discs, then slide each thread into its corresponding guide. This helps ensure the thread is seated correctly inside the tension system.
Separate colours identify the left needle, right needle, upper looper and lower looper. The full sequence is also displayed inside the opening front cover.

Accessible lower-looper threading
Open the looper and side covers, then follow the green colour-coded route to the lower-looper mechanism.
Janome’s easy-threading system brings the difficult guide into a more convenient position, reducing the need to reach behind the upper-looper assembly.
This is not an air-threading system, but it makes conventional lower-looper threading considerably more approachable.

Differential feed changes the relationship between the front and rear feed dogs.
Increase the setting to help prevent stretch fabrics from becoming wavy or to create controlled gathering. Reduce the setting to help manage puckering on lightweight woven materials or to create a deliberately stretched finish.

With the stitch finger withdrawn, the looper threads can roll the fabric edge into a narrow, dense finish.

Important information before purchasing
The MyLock 454D is a conventional manually threaded overlocker. It does not have air threading or automatic thread tension.
It is a three and four-thread model and does not provide two-thread stitching.
It does not create a coverstitch. A separate coverstitch machine is required for hems with parallel stitching on top and looped coverage underneath.
It has a flat overlocking bed and does not convert to a free arm.
It is intended for domestic garment sewing, alterations and creative projects rather than continuous industrial production.
