Schmetz · Industrial leather cutting-point needles

A cutting point for a slanted leather stitch.

Schmetz DPx16 LR / 135x16 RTW needles combine a machine-specific system with a reverse-twist leather cutting point. The LR point cuts the leather to help produce a visibly slanted stitch appearance. Choose from five sizes for suitable leatherwork on a machine that specifies this needle system.

Pack of 10 needles. Sizes: 110/18, 120/19, 130/21, 140/22 or 160/23.

Visible leather seams

The LR point can create a slanted stitch appearance for decorative seams. Check the result on your actual machine, leather and thread before committing to a panel.

Leather bag construction

Use with a compatible machine for suitable bag or accessory seams. Select a needle size that carries the chosen thread without making unnecessarily large holes.

Leather repair work

Match the new seam to the material and existing stitch spacing. Old needle holes remain in leather, so plan the seam position before starting.

Choose the required size or pack option above. Your order supplies the selected option, not the full range.

Before you start

  1. Confirm the DPx16 LR / 135x16 RTW system and choose a size compatible with your machine, leather and thread.
  2. Switch off and fit the needle exactly as instructed. Set an appropriate stitch length for the leather.
  3. Sample the complete seam, checking stitch angle, hole size and seam strength before sewing the finished item.

Cutting points can sever yarns in woven or knitted fabric. Do not assume LR is suitable for every synthetic leather or coated material.

Good to know

Is LR the same as an ordinary Sharp point?

No. LR is a shaped leather cutting point, not a normal round cloth-sewing point.

Can I shorten the stitch for a stronger seam?

Not automatically. Closely spaced holes can weaken leather through perforation; choose spacing by testing the actual seam.
