CRUCCI · PURE MERINO · 14 PLY
Warmth you can make your own.
Meet Sporte Merino: a substantial, pure-merino yarn for cosy chunky knits, with a palette that moves from quiet neutrals to rich winter colour.
Choose a shade for an everyday sweater, a generous scarf or a textured blanket. Each 100g ball gives you approximately 115 metres of New Zealand and Australian merino, with gentle machine washing for practical everyday care.
Sold individually: one 100g ball in your selected colour.

Pure merino. Plenty of possibility.
Cosy layers
The chunky weight is a lovely starting point for warm jumpers, cardigans and relaxed winter accessories. Choose a pattern that matches the yarn’s tension and the fabric you want.
Make colour the feature
Work a single shade for an understated finish, introduce contrast trims, or plan stripes across the 16-colour palette. Buy each colour’s full project quantity together.
Practical wool care
Gentle machine washing makes this pure-merino option easier to care for. Always follow the care directions on your ball band and check any other yarn used in the same project.

A palette for your next project
Quiet & classic
Combine Powder and Silver, or bring depth with Black. For a warmer neutral palette, explore Acorn and Chocolate.
Soft & fresh
Try Pretty Pink with Powder, Butter Yellow with Sage, or Dusky Blue with Silver.
Rich & earthy
Make Olive or Fern your main colour, give Ocean a neutral companion, or choose Burgundy for a bold winter layer.
These are colour-pairing suggestions, not pattern-specific yarn requirements.
Plan the whole project
Use your pattern’s metre requirement to work out the number of balls. Divide the total metres by 115, then round up to the next whole ball. For stripes or colourwork, calculate each colour separately.
| Yarn needed in your pattern | Minimum 100g balls |
|---|---|
| 300m | 3 balls = approximately 345m |
| 500m | 5 balls = approximately 575m |
| 800m | 7 balls = approximately 805m |
| 1,000m | 9 balls = approximately 1,035m |
These are metre conversions, not garment estimates. Allow for swatching, changes in length and your own tension. Where the calculation leaves little spare yarn, consider an extra ball.

Get the fabric right
Start with the recommended 6mm needles, then make and wash a tension swatch as directed by your pattern. Measure once dry and adjust needle size if needed. The pattern’s required tension takes priority over the ball-band guide.
For crochet, the 6mm hook is a starting guide; choose the hook and stitch tension that produce the fabric specified in your project.
Care for your finished knit
Use a gentle wool-wash routine in accordance with the ball band. As general wool-care practice, support the garment when wet, ease it back into shape and dry flat. If combining yarns, follow the most delicate care requirement.
Questions before you cast on?
Is Sporte Merino the same as Crucci Sporte?
This listing is specifically for Sporte Merino 14ply, the 100% merino range in shades 7240–7255. Check the exact yarn name, metreage and tension when following an older Sporte pattern.
Can I use it for any chunky pattern?
Match the pattern’s tension and check its total metreage first. “Chunky” describes a broad weight group, so it does not guarantee a direct substitution.
Do I order balls or packs?
The quantity selector counts individual 100g balls. A quantity of 1 means one ball in the selected colour.
How do I keep my colour consistent?
