How to check a needle size
Gently pass the straight shaft of the needle through the gauge holes, rather than judging by the tapered point. Use the closest hole that fits without force and read the corresponding size. The gauge identifies diameter; it does not tell you which interchangeable cable connection a needle uses.
Measure a useful swatch
Knit a swatch in your project yarn and stitch pattern, finish it as the pattern recommends and lay it flat without stretching. Count stitches and rows through the centre, away from the edges. Measure over the area specified by the pattern; repeat across a larger area if needed. Compare your tension before deciding whether to change needle size.

Care and storage
