Ten colours ready. Live-camera precision. Designs created on screen.
The Brother PR1055X is a capable ten-needle, single-head embroidery machine designed for serious home embroiderers, growing businesses and organisations that want professional results without stepping into a large industrial machine.
A productive step up for growing embroidery work
Keep up to ten thread colours mounted at once, move confidently between flat and tubular items, and use the live camera to see where a design will sit before embroidery begins.
Ten colours ready to sew
The machine automatically moves between its ten needles as the design changes colour, reducing interruptions and repeated rethreading.
Live-camera positioning
View the fabric and embroidery placement on the touchscreen to help position names, logos and motifs accurately.
On-screen design creation
Draw directly on the display or use the included scanning frame to turn suitable artwork into stitches without relying on a computer for every design.
Open tubular embroidery arm
Access pockets, sleeves, tote bags and other pre-assembled products more easily than with a conventional flatbed embroidery machine.
Wireless workflow
Transfer compatible designs from a computer and use Brother’s supported mobile app to receive machine-status notifications.
Automatic assistance
Automatic needle threading, thread cutting, colour sorting and thread monitoring help reduce routine handling and finishing time.
See the design on the fabric before you stitch
The PR1055X’s built-in camera provides a live view of the needle area. Scan the hooped garment or fabric, display the design over it and make positioning adjustments on the touchscreen.
- Preview embroidery placement directly over the fabric
- Check alignment on patterned, pieced or previously embroidered work
- Use positioning stickers for accurate placement and rotation
- Zoom in closely for detailed on-screen editing
- Reduce guesswork before committing stitches to the garment
Less rethreading between colour changes
Assign a different colour to each needle and allow the PR1055X to change needles automatically as it follows the design sequence. This is particularly useful for repeat logos, personalised garments and multi-colour production work.
Speed can also be adjusted by needle, helping you manage metallic, speciality or more demanding threads with greater control.
Workflow advantages
- Up to ten colours without stopping to rethread
- Automatic colour changes during embroidery
- Individual needle-speed adjustment
- Colour sorting to reduce unnecessary changes
- Thread-break monitoring and machine alerts
- Jump-stitch trimming functions to reduce cleanup
Useful clarification: the PR1055X has one embroidery head and stitches one item at a time. Its ten needles allow ten thread colours to remain prepared for automatic colour changes.
Create and edit without leaving the machine
The large 10.1-inch high-resolution touchscreen provides access to Brother’s on-screen editing and digitising tools. Draw a suitable design on the display or scan artwork using the included scanning frame.
- Combine, resize, rotate and reposition embroidery elements
- Add and arrange lettering directly on screen
- Create simple custom designs from drawings or scanned artwork
- Preview colour changes and embroidery order
- Use detailed zoom for precise editing
- Access built-in tutorials and operating guidance
My Design Center is excellent for creative work and suitable artwork. Complex commercial logos may still require professional embroidery digitising to control stitch type, density, underlay and sewing order.
Designed for professional-looking embroidery
A clear work area, bright lighting and an open tubular arm support a wide range of garments and embroidery projects.
What can you embroider?
The PR1055X is well suited to personalisation, business branding, club apparel, creative embroidery and short-run production.

Brother PR1055X frequently asked questions
Does the PR1055X embroider ten items at once?
No. The PR1055X has one embroidery head and stitches one item at a time. Its ten needles allow up to ten thread colours to remain prepared so the machine can change colours automatically.
What is the included embroidery area?
The largest included embroidery frame provides a 360 × 200 mm embroidery area. Smaller 180 × 130, 100 × 100 and 60 × 40 mm frames are also included.
Can the PR1055X embroider up to 360 × 360 mm?
The PR1055X platform can reach up to 360 × 360 mm with a compatible optional jumbo frame. That frame is not included with the standard machine package.
Is the stand included?
Yes. A machine stand is included with this Direct Sewing PR1055X package.
How does the built-in camera help?
The live camera shows the needle area and allows the design to be previewed over the hooped fabric on screen. This helps with placement, alignment, rotation and matching embroidery to existing details.
Can I create embroidery designs on the machine?
Yes. My Design Center allows you to draw, edit and create suitable designs on the touchscreen. The included scanning frame can also scan artwork for conversion into embroidery.
Will My Design Center digitise any company logo perfectly?
It is useful for drawings, lettering and suitable artwork, but complex commercial logos may still need professional digitising to control stitch density, underlay, direction and sewing order.
Does the PR1055X have wireless connectivity?
Yes. Compatible embroidery designs can be transferred wirelessly from a computer, and Brother’s supported mobile app can provide notifications when the machine requires attention. Device and software compatibility applies.
Which embroidery file formats can it read?
The PR1055X supports PES, PHC and DST embroidery files. DST files do not normally contain full thread-colour information, so the colour sequence should be checked before stitching.
Can the PR1055X embroider caps?
Yes, with a compatible optional Brother cap-frame system. A cap frame is not included in the standard package.
How does the PR1055X compare with the Brother PR680W?
The PR1055X has ten needles instead of six, a larger 360 × 200 mm included embroidery field, live-camera positioning and on-screen design creation. The PR680W uses six needles, has a 300 × 200 mm included field and uses crosshair-laser positioning.
Is the PR1055X suitable for an embroidery business?
Yes. Its ten-needle workflow, tubular arm, automatic colour changes and speed of up to 1,000 stitches per minute make it well suited to personalisation, repeat logos and small-business production.
What local support and warranty are available?
Direct Sewing provides setup guidance and local after-sales support from its Auckland showroom and workshop. The current listing states a five-year warranty for domestic use or one year for commercial purposes; conditions apply, so confirm coverage for your intended use.
