Top-Down Knitting Patterns NZ
Top-Down Knitting · Garments & Hats
Explore knitting patterns that explicitly include top-down construction, from sweaters and cardigans to a baby sweater and a beanie option. Compare each design’s yarn, sizing and working method. Top-down describes the direction of knitting; it does not automatically mean a seamless finish.
Pattern prices exclude yarn and tools.
Choosing a top-down knitting pattern
Read the construction for your design. Some patterns combine flat knitting with sections worked in the round. Follow the stated shaping, joining and finishing instructions; top-down and seamless are different descriptions.
Check multi-design leaflets. A leaflet qualifies here when at least one design is explicitly top-down. In the beanie-and-scarf leaflet, that construction applies to the beanie; do not assume every included design is worked the same way.
Plan fit, tension and tools. Compare the pattern’s measurements and intended ease, then check yarn quantities, tension, needle diameters and required cable lengths. For baby garments, measurements matter alongside age labels. Read each listing for exactly what the pattern purchase includes.
