Choosing a lace or openwork project

Stitch technique is different from yarn weight: Lace describes the open stitch structure here. These designs use several yarn weights; a pattern is not included simply because its yarn is called lace weight. Choose the design first, then match its stated yarn and tension.

Check strands and construction: Ovington uses Alpaca Haze held double, while Ren uses a single strand. Saffi combines Cotton DK with Alpaca Haze. Follow the exact strand instructions and project quantities; holding yarns together does not make different yarns interchangeable.

Read the complete technique list: Some designs combine lace with cables, shaping or a particular border. The Triangle Shawl is a knitting pattern finished with a crochet border. Compare those requirements with your skills, and use the leaflet’s tension and finishing instructions to judge the final fabric.

Plan supplies and finishing: Check size, yarn metres, colours and needle lengths before ordering. Follow the yarn’s own washing and blocking limits. These are printed instructions; yarn and tools are purchased separately or added through the options you choose in a project builder.
