Iron Cleaners & Soleplate Care NZ
Clean away fusible, starch and fabric residue from a compatible iron soleplate before it marks your next project. Compare iron-cleaning pens, sticks, pastes and tubes for sewing rooms and pressing stations in New Zealand.
Choosing and using an iron soleplate cleaner
Choose for the residue and surface
Check the cleaner’s stated use and your iron manufacturer’s care instructions, particularly for coated, ceramic or non-stick soleplates. Residue removal is different from repairing a damaged or discoloured finish. The Birch listing, for example, says it does not remove discolouration in the metal finish.
Follow that product’s temperature instructions
Application methods differ. Mizuho Stick Ace is applied to a hot soleplate; Mizuho Hi-Clean paste is applied to a cloth for use on a warm iron. Follow the supplied directions for temperature, application and wiping away residue.
Iron or manual heat press?
Odif Iron Cleaner is listed for irons and compatible manual heat presses. Its directions specify application to a cotton cloth, followed by the hot, dry soleplate, with steam off. Do not transfer one cleaner’s method to every product or press.
Soleplate cleaning is external cleaning
These products are for the ironing surface. A soleplate cleaner is not a boiler descaler or water-reservoir treatment. Keep cleaner out of the steam system and follow the pack instructions before returning the iron to fabric.
Finish your setup with quilting pressing tools, or ask Direct Sewing if the cleaner’s suitability for your iron or press is unclear.
