Maraflex setup
Use Maraflex above and below
For the intended stretch performance, use Maraflex in both the needle and bobbin. Ordinary bobbin thread can restrict the seam.
1 · Fit a Jersey, Stretch or Super Stretch needleUse NM 70–80, matched to the fabric.
2 · Keep tension low and balancedExcess tension reduces the thread reserve needed for stretch.
3 · Aim for four stitches per centimetreApproximately 2.5mm stitch length is the recommended starting point.
150m or 1,500m? Choose 150m for occasional projects. Choose 1,500m for frequent sewing or production; domestic machines normally require a suitable cone stand.

Mara 100 is the best general starting point for garment construction, alterations, hems and smooth everyday seams.
Should I choose Mara 70 or Mara 50 for topstitching?
Choose Mara 70 for defined but refined topstitching. Choose Mara 50 for a bolder Tex 60 line on jeans, denim, canvas, bags and workwear.
Does a lower Mara number mean thicker thread?
Yes. In this range the thread gets heavier as the ticket number falls: Mara 100 is Tex 30, Mara 70 is Tex 40 and Mara 50 is Tex 60.
What is the difference between Mara and Maraflex?
Mara is the 100% polyester MCT® family for standard and decorative seams. Maraflex is specialist elastic PBT thread. Choose Mara by stitch weight; choose Maraflex for seam stretch.
Do I use Maraflex in the bobbin?
Yes. Use Maraflex as both needle and bobbin thread for the intended stretch performance, with low balanced tension and approximately four stitches per centimetre.
Should I buy Maraflex 150m or 1,500m?
Choose 150m for occasional domestic projects. Choose 1,500m for frequent sewing, alterations or production; most domestic machines require an external cone stand.
