- Start with a 90/14 Quilting or Topstitch needle, adapting to your machine, fabric and layers.
- Test on an offcut of the actual project layers. Adjust upper tension if needed for a balanced stitch.
- Try your chosen stitch length before you begin: stitch size, density and direction change how the colours appear.
- For machine embroidery, use a design suited to 30wt thread and test its stitch density.

Will it make a repeating stripe?
Not a guaranteed one. The appearance depends on the shade, stitch length, stitch density and stitching direction. Sew a sample on your chosen fabric to see the effect.
Is 30wt suitable for fine quilt piecing?
Choose it when you want a fuller, visible stitch. It is thicker than Sulky's 40wt cotton, so a finer thread is generally a better starting point when minimising bulk in closely pieced seams is the priority.
