Before you start
- Confirm your machine specifies the compatible household system and select a size for the fabric and thread.
- Switch off and install the needle fully, following the manual's fitting and threading directions.
- Sew a sample and inspect both sides, including any seam crossings or extra layers.
Universal describes the needle type, not guaranteed machine fit. Overlockers and industrial machines can require different systems.

Compare Stretch for elastic knits, Jeans for firm woven cloth and Microtex for fine or densely woven materials.
Does the highest size suit every heavy project?
No. Select a size that handles the thread without unnecessary holes, and stay within the machine's permitted size and material range.
