Choose the point as carefully as the size.

Schmetz DBx1 / 16x231 needles are a replacement for industrial sewing machines that specify this system. Choose a Sharp option for suitable woven-fabric work or an SES light ballpoint for appropriate knitted fabrics. The range covers fine through heavier needle sizes, with ten needles in each selected pack.

10 needles per pack. Sharp: 60/8, 65/9, 70/10, 80/12, 90/14, 100/16 or 110/18. Ballpoint: 60/8, 65/9, 70/10, 80/12, 90/14 or 100/16.

Choose it for your project

Woven garment construction

Choose the Sharp option and an appropriate size for woven seams on a compatible machine. Fine cloth and heavier layers need different fabric-and-thread combinations.

Fine to medium knits

SES has a lightly rounded ballpoint that displaces yarns as it enters suitable knitted materials. Test particularly fine or elastic fabrics for snagging and skipped stitches.

Changing thread weight

Match the eye and needle size to the thread. Move between the available sizes when the project changes, while retaining the machine’s specified needle system.

Choose the required size or pack option above. Your order supplies the selected option, not the full range.

Before you start

  1. Match DBx1 / 16x231 to your machine manual, then choose the point and size for the fabric and thread.
  2. Switch off the machine and fit the needle fully, with the groove and scarf facing as the manual directs.
  3. Sew a sample through the complete seam layers. Check the stitch, needle holes and any fabric damage before continuing.

DBx1 and DPx5 are different needle systems. An identical size number does not make them interchangeable.

Good to know

What does SES mean?

SES is Schmetz’s light ballpoint designation. It is not the same point as the more rounded SUK medium ballpoint.

Does Ballpoint include 110/18?

No. The Ballpoint selection runs from 60/8 to 100/16; 110/18 is offered in the Sharp selection.
