Schmetz Jersey Ballpoint needles are designed to work between the loops of knitted fabric. The medium ball point helps reduce damage to the material, making this a useful choice for suitable jersey, sweatshirt fabric and cotton knitwear. Select the size for the fabric weight and thread, then check the seam on an offcut.

Choose a size for the knit, thread and layered ribbing. Test the fabric combination used at cuffs or neckbands.
Changing knit weights
Keep different sizes available for lighter and heavier projects. Retest when the fabric construction changes, even if its fibre content stays the same.

Choose a single-size or Assorted pack. One pack is supplied per selection.
Before you start
- Check machine compatibility, then select the needle size for the knit and sewing thread.
- Switch off, fit a fresh needle and choose a stitch suited to the stretch the seam needs.
- Sew matching layers without stretching the fabric; check stitch formation and seam recovery.
For highly elastic fabric or persistent skipped stitches, compare Stretch or Super Stretch needles. Their specialised geometry adds features beyond the rounded point.
Good to know
Does Ballpoint mean Stretch?
Not exactly. Both use rounded points, but Stretch needles have a specialised scarf and eye area for elastic fabrics.
Will the needle alone make a seam stretchy?
No. Stitch choice, thread and handling also determine how well the finished seam stretches with the garment.
