Why the expression 710 stands out

Serious quilting space with advanced PFAFF technology

01

The Original IDT System

Integrated dual feeding moves fabric from both above and below for accurate seams and dependable layer matching.

02

250mm sewing space

Nearly 10 inches of space to the right of the needle supports quilts, bags and larger sewing projects.

03

Colour touchscreen

Preview stitches at actual size and access settings, recommendations and editing controls visually.

04

Automatic foot lift

The presser foot rises automatically when the needle stops down, simplifying pivoting and appliqué.

05

Automatic thread snips

Cut the upper and bobbin threads and pull the thread tails to the underside of the project.

06

Automatic tension

The machine applies an appropriate upper-thread tension setting for the selected stitch and technique.

07

Bobbin thread sensor

Receive an on-screen warning when the bobbin thread is approaching the end.

08

Electronic knee lift

Raise the presser foot while keeping both hands on the quilt, garment or appliqué.

The defining PFAFF advantage

The Original IDT integrated dual-feed system

Standard feed dogs move the project from underneath. PFAFF’s Original IDT System adds synchronised feeding from above through a slim mechanism positioned behind the presser foot.

Both fabric layers are moved together, helping reduce shifting, stretching and pattern misalignment.

Unlike a bulky walking-foot attachment, IDT is built into the machine and can be engaged or disengaged whenever required.

Particularly useful for

  • Quilt sandwiches
  • Patchwork piecing
  • Checks and stripes
  • Stretch fabrics
  • Slippery materials
  • Top stitching
  • Long garment seams
  • Bag construction
Room for ambitious projects

250mm of space to the right of the needle

The expression 710 offers approximately 9.8 inches of horizontal working room between the needle and machine tower.

This provides valuable space for quilt blocks, quilt sandwiches, bags, home décor and bulky garment sections.

The bright work area and automatic presser-foot functions also make it easier to reposition larger projects without losing control.

  • Nearly 10 inches of workspace
  • Suitable for quilting
  • Free-arm conversion
  • Extension table available separately
  • Built-in ruler markings
  • Electronic knee lift included
250mm Workspace to the right of the needle

Generous space for quilts, home décor, large garment sections and creative projects.

Exclusive PFAFF creativity

Floating, ribbon and stacking stitch techniques

Selected stitches are designed to create layered visual effects beyond ordinary decorative sewing.

Floating stitches

Create the appearance of stitches floating between secured points on the fabric.

Single ribbon stitches

Secure narrow ribbon into decorative shapes with guided stitch placement.

Double ribbon stitches

Combine two ribbons into dimensional decorative effects.

Triple ribbon stitches

Create richer layered effects using three coordinated ribbon elements.

Stacking stitches

Sew compatible patterns over one another to form new decorative combinations.

Maxi stitches

Create selected side-motion designs substantially wider than an ordinary 9mm stitch.

Create something genuinely original

Exclusive Stitch Creator feature

Edit built-in 9mm stitches or create new decorative stitches by changing the placement of individual stitch points.

Move, add, delete and adjust stitch points on screen to alter the structure and appearance of the pattern.

Completed stitches can be saved to the Personal Menu for use in future projects.

Creative control includes

  • Edit individual stitch points
  • Create original 9mm stitches
  • Adjust stitch width
  • Adjust stitch length
  • Change stitch direction
  • Save personal designs
  • Combine with sequencing
  • Reuse custom stitches later
Fine-tune built-in stitches

Creative Signature sewing programmes

The expression 710 allows compatible stitches to be customised without permanently changing the original design.

  • Taper the beginning of decorative stitches
  • Taper the end of decorative stitches
  • Move the stitch position
  • Mirror patterns side to side
  • Mirror patterns end to end
  • Alter stitch density independently
  • Use twin-needle safety settings
  • Save favourite customised versions
Build repeatable decorative layouts

Stitch sequencing and Personal Menu

Combine up to 99 compatible stitches and letters into a sequence that can be sewn repeatedly.

Sequences are useful for borders, labels, names, decorative hems and personalised project details.

Save up to 30 customised stitches or sequences in the Personal Menu for quick access later.

Consistent repeated seam lengths

Patchwork and single-stitch programmes

The Patchwork Programme records the length of a seam and repeats it across additional pieces.

This is useful when piecing units of the same size because the machine can stop after reproducing the recorded seam length.

The Single Stitch Programme can also sew an exact number of stitches or sequence repeats before stopping.

  • Repeat recorded seam lengths
  • Piece matching patchwork units
  • Set an exact stitch count
  • Set sequence repetitions
  • Automatic stopping
  • Improved consistency
Precise straight-stitch placement

Thirty-seven needle positions

Move the needle across the full 9mm stitch-width area when using compatible straight stitches.

This allows the fabric to remain aligned against a foot or needle-plate marking while the actual stitching position is adjusted.

  • Top stitching
  • Edge stitching
  • Understitching
  • Zip insertion
  • Piping
  • Stitching in the ditch
  • Patchwork
  • Accurate seam placement
37 Straight-stitch needle positions

Position visible stitching precisely without repeatedly moving the fabric or changing presser feet.

Hands-free project control

Automatic presser-foot lift and electronic knee lift

Set the needle to stop down and the presser foot automatically lifts to a pivot position when sewing stops.

The electronic knee lift provides another hands-free way to raise the presser foot while keeping both hands on the fabric.

Appliqué

Pivot around shapes while keeping the needle securely in the project.

Quilting

Reposition layered projects without repeatedly reaching for the foot lever.

Garment sewing

Turn corners and navigate curved construction details more efficiently.

Precise placement

Keep both hands available for aligning difficult seams and intersections.

Balanced stitching with less adjustment

Electronic self-adjusting thread tension

The machine applies a recommended upper-thread tension setting for the selected stitch and sewing technique.

This provides a useful starting point when moving between construction, buttonholes, quilting and decorative patterns.

Manual adjustment remains available for specialist threads, unusual fabrics and intentional decorative effects.

Clean finishing at the touch of a button

Automatic upper and bobbin thread snips

Press the thread-snips button and the machine cuts both the upper and bobbin threads.

The thread tails are pulled towards the underside of the fabric, creating a neater finish and reducing manual trimming.

  • Cuts the upper thread
  • Cuts the bobbin thread
  • Pulls thread tails underneath
  • Reduces manual trimming
  • Useful during quilting
  • Convenient during garment sewing
Consistent garment finishing

Eight Sensormatic one-step buttonhole styles

Attach the Sensormatic Buttonhole Foot and the machine sews both sides of the buttonhole in the same direction.

This helps produce balanced buttonholes with consistent density and repeatable length.

The included manual buttonhole foot provides another option for unusually placed or oversized applications.

Three ways to work free motion

Free-motion quilting, thread painting and darning

The expression 710 includes three free-motion modes so the machine can be configured for different foot types and techniques.

Lower the feed dogs and move the project manually beneath the needle using the included Sensormatic Free-Motion Foot or another compatible foot.

Free-motion quilting

Create curves, textures, fills and personalised quilting patterns.

Thread painting

Build colour and detail through free-motion stitching.

Darning

Repair worn areas by controlling the direction of the fabric manually.

Creative drawing

Use the needle and thread like a drawing tool across stabilised fabric.

Straight-stitch confidence

Straight-stitch plate with automatic sensor

Fit the supplied straight-stitch needle plate when piecing, quilting or sewing fine materials with a centre straight stitch.

Its small needle opening supports the fabric close to the needle and can help reduce the risk of fine material being pulled into the bobbin area.

The machine detects the plate and warns you if an incompatible wide stitch is selected.

Never guess how much bobbin remains

Built-in bobbin thread sensor

The machine monitors the bobbin and displays a warning when the remaining thread becomes low.

This is especially valuable during long quilting rows, decorative sequences and visible top stitching where running out unexpectedly can interrupt the design.

Easy machine preparation

Top-loading rotary bobbin and needle threading

Insert the bobbin from above beneath the transparent cover and follow the marked thread path.

The jam-resistant rotary-hook system provides smooth bobbin operation and straightforward cleaning access.

The built-in needle threader reduces the close-up work required to guide the upper thread through the needle eye.

  • Top-loading bobbin
  • Transparent bobbin cover
  • Jam-resistant rotary hook
  • Bobbin winding through the needle
  • Built-in needle threader
  • Five bobbins included
Bright visibility across the work area

Even LED workspace illumination

LED lighting and light guides distribute illumination across the sewing area rather than concentrating it in one small spot.

Better visibility supports accurate piecing, top stitching, appliqué and work with dark fabrics.

Important information before purchasing

The PFAFF expression 710 is a premium domestic computerised sewing and quilting machine. It is not an embroidery machine, overlocker, coverstitch machine or industrial sewing machine.

The built-in sewing fonts and decorative stitches are created while fabric feeds beneath the presser foot. The machine does not use embroidery hoops or import embroidery designs.

Its USB connection is intended for supported machine updates. It is not a general embroidery-design import port.

The 250mm measurement refers to the physical space between the needle and machine tower. An optional extension table increases fabric support but does not increase this throat-space measurement.

The Original IDT System is an integrated domestic dual-feed system. It does not convert the machine into an industrial compound-feed or walking-foot machine.

Use the correct needle, thread, presser foot and settings for each fabric and sewing technique.

What is the Original IDT System?

It is PFAFF’s integrated dual-feed mechanism, which feeds fabric from above in synchronisation with the feed dogs below.

Does IDT replace a walking foot?

For many layered-sewing, matching and straight-line quilting jobs, IDT provides the controlled upper feeding normally associated with a walking foot without requiring a separate bulky attachment.

How many stitches does the expression 710 have?

It includes 247 built-in stitches across seven categories.

Can it create custom stitches?

Yes. Stitch Creator allows compatible 9mm stitches to be edited or created by changing individual stitch points.

Does it sew letters and names?

Yes. Three built-in sewing fonts can be used in stitch sequences for names, labels and short wording.

Is the lettering embroidery?

No. The letters are sewn as feed-through stitches. The expression 710 is not an embroidery machine and does not use a hoop.

Does it have an automatic thread cutter?

Yes. The thread-snips function cuts both upper and bobbin threads.

Does it raise the presser foot automatically?

Yes. The presser foot can rise automatically when sewing stops with the needle down. An electronic knee lift is also included.

Yes. Electronic self-adjusting tension provides a recommended setting, with manual override available.

Does it warn when the bobbin is low?

Yes. A built-in sensor displays a warning when the remaining bobbin thread becomes low.

How many buttonholes does it have?

It includes eight Sensormatic one-step buttonhole styles.

Can it free-motion quilt?

Yes. The machine includes three free-motion modes and a Sensormatic Free-Motion Foot.

Does it include a straight-stitch plate?

Yes. The included plate is automatically detected by the machine to help prevent incompatible wide stitches being selected.

Does it include an extension table?

No. A compatible PFAFF extension table is available separately.

Can it sew stretch fabric?

Yes. It includes stretch stitches, and the Original IDT System assists fabric control when used with the correct stretch or ballpoint needle.

Can it sew denim?

It can sew ordinary garment-weight denim with the correct jeans needle, thread and settings. It is not an industrial heavy-material machine.

Can embroidery designs be downloaded into it?

No. The USB system is for supported machine updates. The expression 710 does not accept embroidery files or use embroidery hoops.
